Gillette Children's is seeking a full-time Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO) or CO to join our team. The focus for this position is Spine and is based within our hospital location.
Evaluates, casts, measures, designs, fabricates, and fits all types and complexities of orthoses/ prostheses for patients resulting in a comfortable fit and a cosmetically acceptable device that fulfills prescription treatment requirements. Acts as a resource to students and individuals in residency programs.
Specific duties are determined by the work setting or patient population served; however, in all positions, serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patient’s condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams.
Pay & Benefits Information:
The hourly wage for this opportunity is $36.26 to $54.40, with a median wage of $45.33/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay just one part of the compensation package for employees. Major Challenges:
- Meets established due dates for completion of orthoses/prostheses by prioritizing work load and following up with technicians during fabrication process.
- Performs fittings and adjustments within the timeframes established in the scheduling protocols.
- Maintain a leadership role and represent the department within the hospital and community.
- Serves as a resource for orthotic and prosthetic technical staff.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Independently evaluates and provides orthoses/prostheses to patients of all ages according to department quality standards.
- Works directly with physicians, therapists, and other health care professionals.
- Makes adjustments and repairs to orthoses/prostheses by utilizing proper materials, equipment, and methods.
Physical Requirements and Demands:
- Lifting/Carrying
- Continuously move equipment up to 10lbs.

- Ability to remain in a stationary position during shift, with ability to stand continuously.
- Ability to move throughout workspace/building.
- Frequent up and down, bending, twisting, and reaching movement.
- Continuous reaching, wrist turning, grasping, pinching and finger manipulation.
- Ability to operate include saws (band, table, panel, and cut off) grinders, buffers (belt, wheel, and drum), Trautman router, sewing machines (flatbed and patchers), drill presses, and hand tools.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Valid Minnesota Prosthetist Orthotist License. Individuals new to MN licensure may begin employment in a license eligible status under the supervision of another licensed CPO, as allowable by law. Must obtain MN license within 90 days of hire.
- To be eligible for MN licensure, this position must also meet certification requirements of either the American Board for Certification (ABC) in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics or the Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC) and be in good standing with the certifying board.
- Excellent hand and power tool skills
- Creative technical problem solving ability
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability and willingness to conduct educational meetings within the department and community
- Current CPR certification (BLS through American Heart Association) required, or must obtain certification within 90-days of hire
Preferred:
- Previous Spine experience
