Position Purpose
Assists dentist during the examination and treatment of patients by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties
- Schedules appointments with consideration of the duration of procedures, agency hours, and dentists’ availability
- Assesses patients. Evaluates effectiveness of care plan and patient’s dental progress
- Sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures
- Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of the patient
- Sterilizes instruments and equipment
- Follows up with patients, documenting all client encounters
- Conducts all client interactions respectfully, professionally, and confidentially
- Maintains inventory and order as indicated
- Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays
- Makes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting

- Pours, trims, and polishes study casts, fabricates custom impression trays from preliminary impressions, cleans and polishes removable appliances, and fabricates temporary restorations
- Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by the Dentist.
Other Duties *
- Actively participates in staff meetings, in-service, outreach, and educational programs
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to interact with diverse clients and work effectively with staff
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Able to communicate effectively in verbal and in written forms
- Ability to transmit calmness and security to patients who may feel uncomfortable or anxious
- Computer knowledge including Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use a database
- Organizational skills
- Ability to perform required duties and actions in a professional manner
- Work with minimal supervision
- Successfully function in a team setting.
Education or Formal Training Other
- Experience preferred but not necessary - we will train the right candidate
- Works in a normal office environment working with standard office equipment (such as phone, fax, and personal computer). Light physical activity is required by handling objects up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally and/or up to ten (10) pounds frequently
- Must be able to walk unassisted
