Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all safety and loss control functions for the Simi Valley plant, providing technical expertise to ensure company-wide excellence in its EHS program.

JOB DUTIES

  • Coordinates, implements, and maintains comprehensive management policies, procedures, and programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term hazards.
  • Manages the site industrial hygiene monitoring program.
  • Maintains a database for all safety/environmental permits and compliance reporting records at the site; creates clear and concise reports using Microsoft applications and other company computer programs.
  • Ensures compliance with all company EHS policies, Cal/OSHA and MSHA health and safety requirements, and any other state and county regulatory requirements. Routinely inspects the facility for compliance; conducts planned job observations and performs job/procedure analyses.
  • Responsible for direct participation with MSHA, Cal/OSHA, and local agencies, in both the inspection and remediation of violations within the plants.
  • Submits applications for renewal, modification, and/or change to the site’s EHS permits; conducts environmental monitoring and reporting activities; collects EHS samples for compliance reporting.
  • Provides Cal/OSHA and MSHA approved EHS training for all employees, contractors, and site visitors; ensures proper record keeping in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts weekly/monthly safety meetings; takes action on safety items noted.
  • Leads the site Safety Committee by scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, scheduling audits, and tracking action item completion.
  • Ensures accident investigations are conducted and maintains the appropriate records. Publishes Safety Alerts and other company-wide communications regarding accidents and/or incidents. Assists in determining action required in order to eliminate causes and follows-up to ensure action is taken.
  • Prepares draft site EHS program materials including policies, procedures, and work instructions. Works in concert with the plant leadership team on all aspects including draft review, editing, finalization, publishing, document control, and employee training components.
  • Works closely with the other EHS Managers, Corporate, Plant Management, Supervisory staff, and employees at all levels to drive proper safe behavior and a strong safety culture and to maintain compliance with Company and EHS standards, providing technical guidance as needed.
  • Technical degree in a related technical, scientific, or engineering discipline and/or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in environmental, health, and safety affairs in a mining or heavy industry manufacturing environment. Experience in surface and/or underground mining operations is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of loss prevention management programs and applicable environmental, health and safety rules, regulations, and permitting requirements, including those of the California Air Resources Board and the Ventura County APCD.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective EHS strategies and management systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to communicate and work effectively with employees at all levels within the company as well as being able to communicate to various groups outside the company regarding its position on safety and environmental issues.
  • High proficiency computer skills in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and Internet.
  • Must be well organized, self-motivated, and have a strong commitment to follow through.
  • Ability to foster and develop a cooperative work environment.

WORK DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required on a regular basis, as needed, including hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, safety-toed work boots, respirator, protective clothing including reflective vest, gloves, and other PPE.
  • Employee may be exposed to dusty and noisy environments and may occasionally work in extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb up ladders and up to six flights of stairs, and work on elevated platforms. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $106,180.00 - $120,000.00 per year
