Ginger Labs is looking for a full-time Controller to join our team in San Francisco, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. As the Controller, you will be a key leader within our organization, responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with accounting policies and procedures, internal controls, and adherence to GAAP standards. You will play a critical role in guiding strategic financial decisions and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate for this role should have experience as a corporate controller in a subscription software business, with significant hands-on qualifications for maintaining accounting, payroll and financial systems.
This role is hybrid, 2 days per week in the San Francisco office, and other days from home.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the accounting operations, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and adherence to GAAP principles
- Ownership of general ledger accounting including monthly closings, consolidations, accruals, AP, AR, insurance reimbursement, fixed assets, trend reports/analysis, and payroll
- Simplify complex accounting topics into clear, concise executive summaries for senior management
- Drive the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance
- Act as a project manager, leading cross-functional teams to ensure the successful completion of finance-related projects
- Serve as lead accounting contact that coordinates cross functionally on compliance and accounting operations (e.g., Treasury, Tax, Technical Accounting, etc)
- Coordinate with the CFO to produce monthly and quarterly Forecast vs. Actual reporting
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with regulations
- Coordinate with the CFO and managers on the annual budgeting process and provide support for ongoing analysis of financial performance
- Coordinate external audits and ensure timely completion with minimal disruptions
- Evaluate and implement financial systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Provide strategic financial insights to senior management to support decision-making
What You Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or strategic finance roles. Big 4 accounting firm experience is a plus
- 5 years of people management experience
- Proven experience in a Controller or related role within a tech or high growth industry, demonstrating a deep understanding of technical accounting and financial management
- Mastery of GAAP and extensive experience with accounting policies and procedures
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distill complex accounting topics into understandable summaries
- Outstanding project management skills and experience leading cross-functional teams
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work with minimal guidance and in a team environment
- A proactive, responsive approach to cross-functional support and collaboration
- Customer service-oriented mindset, with a focus on supporting and enabling the success of other departments
- A passion for learning the business and partnering with company leaders to proactively provide insights and support
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities
Bonus Qualifications:
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation
- Familiarity with Apple ecosystem
- Familiarity with running a WFOE in China
- Demonstrated experience in developing and managing proforma/management reports

For this position we are targeting a base pay between $185,000-$225,000. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
