Medical Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities:

Healthcare

• Effectively communicate with families, the health care team and other school staff to provide continuity of care.
• Provide health education and teaching to students as well as staff to promote health and wellness.
• Prepare and clean treatment rooms and medical instruments.
• Measure vital signs, such as blood pressure.
• Help nurses and physicians with patient examinations.
• Give patients injections or medications as directed by physicians and as permitted by state law.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.

Administrative

• Proficient use of computers for emails, Word documents, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiar with Magnus or a comparable electronic medical record system.
• Enter patient information into medical records.
• Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
• Record patient history and personal information
• Maintain confidentiality of all information in student medical files and in the dissemination of verbal or written information to other staff and disciplines
• Analyzes documentation of all student visits in the medical records and utilizes the nursing process to manage care. Evaluates effectiveness of care given and documents the response.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and clinical knowledge in planning and decision making.
• Demonstrate the ability to function under stressful situations.
• Adhere to universal precautions and infection control guidelines.
• Demonstrate professionalism through appearance, attendance, performance, and communication at all times.
• Collaborate with admissions to support the student enrollment process, ensuring all medical documentation is accurate and complete.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
• Current CPR/AED Certification
• Previous use of data systems designed for student records.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Able to stand, walk, stoop, bend and carry to perform the responsibilities of a medical assistant.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Basic computer knowledge, MS office, Asset essentials work request system a plus.
• Candidates must be customer service oriented, organized and detail oriented, and able to adhere to health guidelines. 
• Experience with EMR (electronic medical records), medical terminology
• Previous experience in a specific medical field is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Extensive walking, climbing stairs (up to four flights), standing and sitting for long periods. Reaching, stretching, bending, stooping and other physical efforts required carrying up to 20 pounds.
