Position Summary
The Troop Engagement Specialist implements recruitment strategies within an assigned territory to generate interest in Girl Scouts, start new and grow existing troops, and engage, train, mentor, and support troop volunteers so they are prepared to deliver consistent, high-quality troop experiences to the youth members they serve.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Cultivate relationships with schools, educators, community organizations, corporations, faith-based institutions, and other community constituents to identify opportunities for recruitment.
· Onboard new troop volunteers and aid them facilitating their first 1-4 troop meetings.
· Provide support and resources for new and existing troop volunteers through regular, proactive communication with troop volunteers.
· Respond to questions from troop volunteers via phone, email, etc. in a professional and timely manner.
· Mediate conflict that arises at the troop level.
· Promote, administer, and manage the volunteer recognition program, including oversight and collaboration with Adult Recognition Committee.
· Utilize data for strategic discussions and decision-making for successful recruitment and volunteer support efforts.
· Keep current on organizational knowledge and best practices by participating in GSUSA webinars, Chatter groups, and utilizing gsConnect.
· Work with a cross-functional team to ensure the effective support of troop leaders.
· Collaborate with Membership Specialists regarding recruitment strategy, lead generation and conversion, to maintain Troop and Volunteer Opportunity catalogs, and to resolve needs of assigned territories.
· Collaborate with Program department regarding recruitment opportunities at council-led or volunteer-led programming and to promote opportunities for troop participation beyond the typical troop meeting.
· Support council, regional and functional efforts and events
Skills & Qualifications
· Organize and manage multiple tasks and projects
· Comfortable leading and speaking to groups of various sizes and ages
· Maintain a high level of confidentiality
· Adept at conflict resolution and problem solving; ability to handle stressful calls/situations and handle rejection from uninterested parties
· Cultural sensitivity
· Strong customer service skills and the ability to take ownership and responsibility for all performance related goals
· Strong computer user skills in Microsoft office including Word, Excel and Outlook, social networking and applications such as Salesforce
· Able to work primarily on-the-road, with minimal time in-office while successfully meeting regional and departmental responsibilities and deadlines
Hours/Travel
· Regular weekends and evenings (average 2-3 nights per week and 1-2 weekends per month)
· Up to 50% - 75% travel – requires reliable access to vehicle
· Able to drive at night
· Travel within and outside Regional and Membership Territories at the direction of the Council, Manager and/or Director to achieve team and council recruitment goals
