Description:

The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Behind every Girl Scout and volunteer is a team of local staff ready to help them earn that next badge, embark on a camping adventure, or organize an impactful service project. We are Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) serving girls in grades K-12 in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. We bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 18,000 girls and 10,000 adult members.


We are looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging environment! The Site Manager welcomes and supervises all troop and group activities and is responsible for safety and cleanliness of the camp site. This includes frequent overnight stays. They are also responsible for maintaining safety standards as directed by Girl Scouts of the USA, American Camp Association and the New Jersey State Department of Health and Youth Camp Services.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Effectively communicate and work with a diverse group of volunteers, staff and campers (background/abilities) to encourage full participation in Girl Scouting.
  • Welcoming troops, groups, or participants.
  • Supervising and coordinating troop or group activities and assist groups in locating their site
  • Enforcing site procedures and maintain safety of all using the property.
  • Be on site before troop/group arrives until they leave. This includes frequent overnight stays.
  • Provide information and assistance to registered troops/groups
  • Review any changes or important procedures with the troop/group leader
  • Be available to monitor troops/groups by performing site checks (drive/walk around camp property to observe activities and answer questions)
  • Be knowledgeable of council crisis management plan
  • Check restricted areas to ensure safe usage and that facilitators are present (boating, swimming, archery, challenge course/zip line)
  • Set a time to open the trading post (troop camping and day use only, not for group use) if the troops or service unit want it open.
  • Enforce GSNNJ policies and procedures for property use
  • Respond to emergency situations by providing first aid, directions to the hospital, or calling for police or fire departments
  • Keeping bathrooms stocked and clean.
  • Keeping site/campground clean.
  • Report accidents (or incidents) and complete reports (site manager, accident/incident, damage)
  • Assist troops/groups with maintenance problems by providing supplies to site or contacting on call Ranger
  • Be knowledgeable about property conditions and applicable Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints
  • Find out what time each troop/group is leaving and check out their site before they leave. Sign and have an adult from the troop sign the check-out sheet.
  • If at a camp with food service, serve as dining hall coordinator if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Registered member of GSNNJ (must have current membership)
  • Must be 21 years old or older.
  • Problem solving and communication skills.
  • Detail oriented person
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Certified in first aid and CPR (may be able to certify through the council)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
  • Camping experience (if for troop camping)
  • Must be able to work Fall, Winter, and/or Spring Rental Seasons on Fridays, Saturdays and/or Sundays.
  • Must be able to work at both Lake Rickabear & Jockey Hollow.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Once Hired

  • Must complete Girl Scouts provided online Troop Camper 1 training within 10 days of hire date.
  • Must take the Girl Scouts provided in-person Troop Camper 2 training when available.
