Camp Maha Description:
Camp Maha is one of Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska properties where girls in grades K-8 could participate in outdoor activities, which include, but are not limited to: archery, hiking, swimming, arts, crafts, challenge course and Girl Scout curriculum (including earning badges). While at Camp Maha, you can hike over miles of trails and be sure to cross the bridge to Girl Scout Island.
Role Description:
The Maha Day Camp Counselor provides Girl Scout Spirit of Nebraska mission driven leadership and understands that empowering girls is at the heart of our organization. Maha Day Camp Counselors ensure an effective and safe camp experience by giving direction and guidance to campers. They display personal pride in their work, a positive work ethic and have a proactive, positive and enthusiastic approach to change. They are responsible for implementing and directing day camp programs that drive our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place! They supervise campers on the bus to and from camp and develop sound relationships with all girl participants as well as camp staff to ensure a positive camp experience.
Staff Training:
Staff will need to be available to attend staff training and are required be current in CPR and First Aid (CPR and First Aid Training is available at no cost to staff members.)
· Basic Outdoor Training: Sunday, May 21st
· All Staff Training: Monday, May 22nd , thru Wednesday May 24th
· Pre-Camp Staff Training and program planning tentatively: May 30th
Staff will need to be available to work Monday– Fridays (some Saturdays) Some overnights required.
Campers are transported to and from camp on school busses. Staff may be required to ride the buses as chaperones to provide camper safety.
Pay: $13-$14 per hour; additional $25 per overnight.
Qualifications:
· Be a member or be willing to become a member of the Girl Scouts, support the principles of Girl Scouting.
· Be aware of and able to effectively handle personnel problems, health and safety procedures and emergency situations.
· Ability to handle stress effectively and know when to seek guidance and support.
· Ability to work and communicate effectively with girls of all age levels, parents, volunteers, staff and diverse communities.
· Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills, initiative, creativity and flexibility, including the ability to evaluate and make changes as necessary to ensure a successful camp experience.
· Ability to work independently and exercise time management skills as well as good judgment.
· Willingness to work irregular hours.
· Ability to bend, lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
· First Aid/CPR certification or ability to become certified required.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and insurable under the Girl Scouts policy. Access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required.
