Position: In-School Program Specialist

Employed by: Director to of Operations

Reports to: Shelbyville Director of School Partnership and Director of Operations

Description

Works directly with students in 3-8 grade to deliver programs and supervise activities in various topic areas such as Healthy Sexuality, Substance Use Prevention, Financial Literacy, Conflict Resolution, Self-Esteem, as well as other programs. Programs will be delivered in a classroom setting to students at various school locations in Monroe County and Richland Bean Blossom school corporations.

Is also able to coordinate and provide programming for evening programs through the year while also assisting in the planning of summer camp.

Must have valid driver’s license and be able to pass limited background check

Essential Functions:

  • The key role for the Program Director will be to provide support to the Director of Operations, Outreach Coordinator, and CEO regarding program development, planning, organization, and implementation.
  • Must be able to deliver engaging lessons to students in grades 4-8 (includes the ability to speak proper English; read, comprehend, and deliver a variety of lesson plans). Lessons cover a wide variety of topics.
  • Coordinate, develop, and implement programs based on the needs of the girls and the Core Essential Services
  • Evaluate programs before and after implementation to determine effectiveness
  • Facilitate specified programs in an outreach setting or in the Girls Inc center
  • Handle all administrative responsibilities associated with the outreach program (e.g. tracking hours, inventorying supplies, surveying participants, completing weekly lesson plans, and other record keeping as deemed necessary.

School Setting

  • Coordinate program delivery with the Director of School Partnerships and appropriate school officials
  • Build relationships with community partners, namely the various school corporations and others as needed.
  • Utilize appropriate student management techniques
  • Work with staff team or school teacher/official to address classroom challenges, including behavioral issues and classroom environment
  • Have a good understanding of Indiana Guidelines for Sex Education, Indiana Academic Standards for Health and Wellness

Safety

  • Report any suspected abuse or neglect to appropriate authority (in-center supervisor or school official)

Other

  • Participate in staff development opportunities when appropriate
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings when appropriate
  • Serve as role model for young students with regards to social skills and communication
  • Maintain a level of professionalism in clothing and language.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, organizational, and conflict resolutions skills

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

  • Must be able to sit/stand/walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 15-20 lbs.
  • Able to communicate, hear, and see clearly
  • High energy required to work with children

This is a full-time exempt position. Salary range: $35,000 based on experience.
