Description:
Become an integral member of a vibrant team dedicated to supporting scientific research. Gladstone Institutes is an independent, nonprofit life science research organization, located in the epicenter of biomedical and technological innovation in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are excited to be expanding our Finance team and are seeking a collaborative and detail oriented Financial Analyst to serve a key role in financial analysis and reporting.
The Financial Analyst will be a prominent member of the dynamic and evolving Finance and Grants teams, and will collaborate on projects that will help Gladstone meet its financial, business, and strategic goals, and improve performance and cost management. The Financial Analyst will ensure that the financial aspects of Gladstone’s strategic plans and operational activities are effectively modeled and forecasted, and will work closely with the Finance and Grants leadership to ensure results are appropriately monitored, and accurately reported.
Duties include:
- Perform high-quality financial analytics, financial forecasting, and modeling on ad hoc projects for the VP for Finance/Director of Grants, and executive management.
- Create executive level reports, financial scenario modeling, and analysis that provides relevant and insightful information for key decision making.
- Drive improvements with existing financial models, and create standard/periodic financial reports, based on business need, working with internal departments.
- Track key metrics and performance indicators to evaluate the health of the business.
- Develop high level financial reporting, and trend analysis, for Gladstone extramural funding.
- Partner with the Finance and Grants teams to ensure alignment between actual and forecasted models on a regular basis.
- Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, and the annual audit.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration required. MBA or CPA a plus.
- Five plus years of relevant experience including financial planning and analysis, preferably in a nonprofit or academic environment. Experience with grants accounting and federal cost principles strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects, and prioritize and communicate status effectively.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to organize concepts and ideas into comprehensible reports. Ability to understand complex problems, and collaborate to find creative solutions.
- Exceptional Excel skills. Workday experience a plus.
