Position Description
As a member of our Corporate Governance research team, you will analyze publicly-listed company securities filings, summarize the proposals that are put forward at shareholders meetings, and offer voting recommendations to our clients, some of which include the worlds largest institutional investors.
The governance team evaluates the board structure and corporate governance policies of publicly traded companies from around the world. Using a company's securities filings, Research Associates will determine whether or not a board of directors satisfies thresholds of independence, financial expertise, and responsiveness to shareholders, among other things. Research Associates will also determine whether or not a company has adopted measures that are contrary to shareholder interests. Focusing primarily on qualitative aspects of publicly available disclosure, Research Associates on the governance team will review documents, construct a concise summary of board structure and policy and generate shareholder vote recommendations based on Glass Lewis standards of best practice.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the corporate legal framework, to research publicly-traded companies, including their executives and directors, and to work at the forefront of the corporate governance field. This will be a particularly valuable experience for those wishing to pursue careers or graduate study in law, business, and public policy, among others.
We are seeking research associates with the following language skills:
Chinese/Mandarin
These are temporary, full-time, entry-level positions based in our San Francisco office. These positions are eligible for a remote working arrangement. Employment is expected to begin February 1 and continue to June 30, 2023. We will provide an introductory training session to acquaint associates with our company's standards of research.
This is a non-exempt position. The compensation is $20/hour.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- Excellent English writing skills, as well as native-level reading skills in Mandarin (both Simplified and Traditional Chinese Characters)
- Strong analytical writing and research skills (emphasis on qualitative analysis)
- Ability to quickly comprehend and summarize complex subjects
- Ability to process data quickly and accurately
- Detail-oriented
- Must work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Genuine interest or knowledge of corporate law, regulation and finance
- Desire to work in a fun and fast-paced environment with other bright people
