Lead Front End Engineer

The Role

The ideal candidate will have a passion for development and a strong background in building dynamic, high-volume web sites within an agile environment. As a lead engineer you would be working with front and backend codebases and engineers, so a familiarity with both sides of the aisle is extremely valuable.

We look for individuals who thrive in an iterative agile environment – which means being comfortable reacting to change quickly and comfortably, and an eagerness to learn and explore new technologies and contexts.

You'll work intimately within a small, collaborative team of engineers, product managers, and designers, making excellent interpersonal and communication skills a must.  Most importantly, we look for people who can prioritize and organize a group, and create a predictable and sustainable cadence of delivery.

Compensation: $150,000 - $187,000

• Tier 2 encompasses salary ranges 15% less than those in Tier 1 for states with mid-sized cities (ie: Chicago, Dallas, Portland, etc) 
• Tier 3 encompasses salary ranges 20% less than those in Tier 1 for states with  smaller cities (including our Ohio office, Nevada, etc)

What You'll Do:

• Focus on improving site performance and strengthening the underlying infrastructure; Ensure we meet our site uptime and performance SLA;
• Identify and analyze performance bottlenecks, develop performance improvements, and work cross-functionally to articulate, measure, and solve performance issues;
• Design, develop, and scale up the monitoring/logging infrastructure for better observability into site reliability and performance;
• Design, develop, and deliver core platform services for continuously improving core platform architecture, site reliability and resolve/mitigate security vulnerabilities;
• Collaborate across teams and functions to make technical, design, strategy, testing, and release decisions;
• Play important role in advocating performance excellence and standard methodologies;

What You’ll Bring 

• 5 years proven software development experiences on large scale systems or high traffic sites;
• Strong experience in Java/JVM based development using frameworks such as Spring, Spring-Boot, Hibernate;
• Experiences with various data store technologies, such as databases (SQL/NoSQL), Redis, Elasticsearch and etc;
• Experiences with developing in cloud environments and infrastructure such as AWS / GCP / Azure;
• Strong hand-on experiences in Linux environment and proficiency in scripting language such as shell, python;
• Experiences with fast delivering in CI/CD and agile/scrum environments;
• Strong technical problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills;
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a technical field (Engineering, Math, etc), or equivalent work experience;

Big bonuses if you also have

• Experiences with diagnosing performance bottlenecks in a large distributed system at scale;
• Hands-on experience in building and integrating monitoring/logging systems into development;
• Hands-on experience with performance measurement, evaluation, and optimization;
• Experience with containerization technology such as Docker and Kubernetes;
