An Introduction to Glenstone Museum
Founded with the mission to seamlessly integrate art, architecture, and nature, Glenstone is an art museum in Potomac, Maryland. Situated on over 300 acres of meadows and woodlands, the museum opened in 2006, expanded in 2018, and offers nearly 60,000 square feet of exhibition space to showcase its world-class collection of more than 1,300 works by over 200 contemporary artists. Admission is always free.
Position Overview
The two-year conservation fellowship will provide a unique opportunity to work with Glenstone’s superlative collection of post-World War II artworks. The fellowship is specific to modern and contemporary art, but open to applicants with experience in one of the following specialties:
  • Media Conservation
  • Objects Conservation
  • Preventive Conservation
The fellow will examine, research, and treat artworks within their specialty, as well as contribute to the Conservation Department’s other tasks, including the maintenance of works on view, exhibition planning and installation, condition reporting of new acquisitions and outgoing loans, and preventive conservation activities. Treatment projects will be tailored to the specialty of the successful candidate. Due to the distinct challenges posed by contemporary art, Glenstone’s conservation program is collaborative in nature. As such, there will be occasions to work with other conservators, museum professionals, galleries, artists, and their studios or foundations. Professional development opportunities are encouraged and supported.
Desired Attributes & Characteristics
Candidates should have a graduate degree from a recognized conservation or digital preservation program and experience with modern and contemporary art. Strong problem-solving and communication skills are essential.
Stipend & Benefits
The two-year fellowship includes an annual stipend of $54,000 plus benefits and support for research and travel to conferences.
We provide a total benefits package that helps you manage your health, protect your income, and prepare for your future. To promote collaboration and show appreciation to associates, Glenstone provides a weekly staff lunch, on-site health and wellness classes and volunteer opportunities.
Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; life, long-term and short-term disability and AD&D insurance, a Flexible Spending Account (FSA); a 401(k) retirement account with a matching contribution; an Employee Assistance Program (EAP); and tuition reimbursement.
Application Process
Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and contact information for three references via our Glenstone Jobs Portal.
Review of applications will begin January 2, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. The start date is intended to be late summer or early fall 2024.

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.
