Established in 1980, the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, Inc. (GLFHC) is a multi-site, mission-driven, non-profit organization employing over 700 staff whose primary focus is providing the highest quality patient care to a culturally diverse population throughout the Merrimack Valley. Nationally recognized as a leader in community medicine (family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, and geriatrics), GLFHC has clinical sites in Lawrence, Methuen, and Haverhill and is the sponsoring organization for the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency Program (LFMR).

GLFHC is currently seeking an Associate Vice President of Finance. The AVP, Finance will be under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer, lead, plan, organize and direct accounting activities of the organization. Oversee and maintain the preparation, record keeping and reporting of information as it relates to the finances of Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, in accordance with policies approved by management; the board of directors and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).


Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards:

  • Department Supervision - Delegate required Finance department tasks to staff and supervises all day-to-day matters pertinent to the department in accordance with GLFHC personnel policies.
  • Supervise and bear responsibility for the production and administration of all required general accounting records and procedures in accordance with GAAP including problem resolution.
  • Oversee, review and approve all Accounts Payable transactions in accordance with GLFHC polices through the use of internal control and purchase order systems.
  • Oversee, review and approve all Payroll transactions in accordance with GLFHC policies and oversee maintenance of employee time records, benefit accruals, departmental allocations and payroll tax remittances.
  • Oversee processes and controls related to reviewing and approving all cash receipts transactions to ensure timely deposit to GLFHC bank accounts.
  • Oversee, review and approve the generation and posting of periodic grant billings within the budgetary constraints of each grant and contract. Ensure compliance with specific requirements for all grants and contracts.
  • Oversee, review and approve the maintenance of subsidiary journals and source documentation used to support all transactions entered into the general ledger system. Oversee the maintenance of the GLFHC general ledger system, Develop and monitor monthly closing schedules to ensure timeliness and accuracy of information used for financial presentations.
  • Oversee and maintain cash balances to ensure appropriate balances for weekly payroll and accounts payable transactions. Prepare and utilize cash flow projections in order to anticipate short and long term cash requirements.
  • Oversee, review and approve the preparation of financial and statistical reports for use by management and the Board of Directors as well as for external use by financing entities, regulatory agencies and funding sources.
  • Oversee the preparation of periodic financial statements. Present actual activity in comparison to budget and/or projections and be able to explain significant variances and trends.
  • Oversee, review, approve and at times prepare analytical reports encompassing key operating statistics for use by management.
  • Oversee the preparation of periodic regulatory costs repots, tax filings, and informational summaries.
  • Oversee, review and approve the maintenance of cost allocation bases and standards to be used in the monthly closing process. Prepare and suggest periodic updates of policies, procedures and standards.
  • Oversee and coordinate the development of the overall GLFHC budget. Assist GLFHC staff in the development of departmental budgets and maintain information in support of final budgets.
  • Oversee and coordinate all agency wide, programmatic, and other financial audits and examinations.
  • Oversee preparation and issuance of all requested information and supporting documentation. Perform and oversee periodic internal audits of controls and compliance with established procedures.
  • Ensure that Finance Department procedures are maximizing the use of automated resources to increase efficiency and improve accuracy. Ensure that proper back-up procedures are in place in order to safeguard data integrity.
  • Oversee the monthly and annual reporting of all documents related to section 125 cafeteria plan. Oversee, review, and approve periodic regulatory filings such as Form 5500 and regulatory cost reports.
  • Oversee, review and approve purchasing and procurement policies and procedures. Enforce purchase order systems and oversee group purchasing and price discounting arrangements.
  • Motivate and manage staff to ensure that performance standards are met or exceeded.
  • Ensure that adequate in-service education is available to staff members.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make decisions, take appropriate actions, and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Perform regular reviews of staffing needs, job descriptions and performance appraisals.
  • Assist in the development of departmental operating policies and procedures ensuring consistency with overall GLFHC policies.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and development by participating in external activities related to professional goals.
  • Respond cooperatively to managers and staff members in other department to promote teamwork.
  • On a regular basis participate in ongoing quality improvement activities related to individual, team, and organizational performance improvement.
  • Travel between sites will be required.
  • Performs any and all additional duties as assigned

Experience

  • Position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible related experience with at least five years of supervisory experience preferably in a health care setting. Combination of education and experience will be considered. CPA, Public Accounting or Deep Non- Profit experience required.

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field

Salary : $99,700 - $126,000
