JOB SUMMARY
This position completes a variety of tasks in the general care of school buildings and surrounding grounds. Provides safe and clean school buildings for students, staff, and community. Performs duties with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of the position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the
following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all applicable District and department policy(ies) and procedures.
2. Cleans and disinfects areas as assigned (i.e. rooms, halls, offices, restrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, etc.), vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes, mops and buffs all types of floor surfaces.
3. Dusts each room on a regular basis.
4. Washes windows, white boards, walls, doors and baseboards.
5. Cleans and polishes furniture, windows and metal work.
6. Maintains indoor and outdoor lighting.
7. Washes, scrubs and sanitizes restrooms and locker rooms as well as cleans sinks, fixtures, panels and drinking fountains daily.
8. Checks and stocks bathroom supplies daily.
9. Cleans up spills (including bodily fluids) in safe and appropriate manner.
10. Responds to special requests for custodial services from staff members with supervisor approval.
11. Sets up, takes down and moves tables, chairs, equipment, shelving and partitions for meetings, athletic events and other needs as assigned.
12. Locks door and windows, turns off lights and secures buildings and property assigned.
13. Makes minor repairs (i.e. sinks, tiles, lockers, change light bulbs, etc.).
14. Picks up trash.
15. Empties waste containers.
16. Reports safety, sanity and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
17. Works collaboratively with District and building administrators as well as other staff to provide reliable service to customers.
18. Keeps appropriate confidentiality as required by law regarding student and staff information.
19. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, administrators, and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
20. Keeps walks, parking areas and entrances clear and clean.
21. Participates in the complete cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds when school is not in session.
22. Prepares buildings for start of the day, including raising the flag.
23. Responds to afterhours calls/emergencies.
Custodian 1
24. Regularly cleans and decontaminates equipment and work areas after contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials to help prevent blood borne pathogens.
25. Directs visitors and safeguards school property.
26. Supervises students assisting with volunteer work as directed by administration.
27. Dress professionally for the position.
28. Provide impeccable customer service.
29. Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
30. Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
31. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
32. Attends work daily as assigned and is punctual.
33. Adheres to daily schedule.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position some or all of the following
tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Assists in maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment.
2. Assists maintenance department as necessary.
3. Attends staff meetings.
4. Participates in the District’s accident prevent program and follows established health and safety procedures.
5. Attends all special or custodial training sessions when requested.
6. If requested, serves as a member of the District safety committee.
7. Completes online training courses as required.
8. Mandatory reporter for suspected child abuse to the Child Welfare Office or a law enforcement agency as obligated by law. If you suspect a known child in the District is being abused, you must also report it to your supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or General Education Diploma
(GED).
- Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Ability to interact with students, staff and community appropriately. Creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere for students and staff.
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to follow written directions.
Custodian 2
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all unit s of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction in written, oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations.
- Technology Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use email.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, administrators, parents, vendors and members of the community.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District, including a valid Oregon Driver’s license and ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception and peripheral vision.
Demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate cleaning tools and grounds equipment. Custodians must spend most of their time on their feet, sometimes lifting or pushing heavy furniture or equipment. Many tasks, such as dusting or sweeping, require constant bending, stooping, and stretching.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high.
