Special Education Teacher

Global Learning Charter Public School
New Bedford, MA Full Time
POSTED ON 4/4/2024
Thank you for your interest in joining the team at Global Learning Charter Public School. We are seeking talented individuals who are adept at understanding and adapting to students from many different backgrounds with varied and unique learning needs.

At GLCPS, the most important quality that all of our team members possess is a genuine love and respect for children and a desire to help each one of our students succeed. We value collaboration, communication, creative thinking, critical thinking, and cultural awareness. We are a relatively small (500 students), urban school district with a diverse student body. Our teachers and support staff meet students and families where they are and start from there.

We take a team approach to ensuring that each of our students reaches their full academic potential and learn 21st century skills, such as technology literacy, communication, global citizenship, and arts exploration. We recognize the importance of addressing our students' social and emotional needs alongside academic and skills growth.

At GLCPS, our Special Education Teachers work in a hands-on environment with their students in an inclusion setting. Special Education Teachers work with General Education Teachers to provide modified content to learners with mild to moderate needs. Special Education Teachers at GLCPS follow a student cohort model, usually working with small classes of 20 students (inclusion) with less than 10 Special Education Students. A typical case load is less than 15 students, with 5-7 student small group resource courses. Students are 1:1 laptop in grades 5-12. Google Classroom and Google Apps help us to provide a project-based learning environment with hands on applications that students can relate to.

At GLCPS, you will have the creativity to plan your own lessons, modify content and the support of a great team of staff. You will get to know your students and be able to provide consistent lessons about content you are familiar with because of your small caseload and ability to be in class with your students. You will have prep time with your Team daily, and free Professional Development opportunities built into your work week to continue your professional growth/earn PDPs and renew your license.
