Responsibilities may include:
Financial Reporting: Overseeing the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to ensure accuracy, compliance with accounting standards, and timely reporting to stakeholders.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Leading the budgeting process by collaborating with department heads to develop annual budgets and forecasts, monitoring performance against budgeted targets, and providing analysis and insights to support decision-making.
Financial Analysis: Conducting financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement, and providing insights to senior management to support strategic decision-making and drive business performance.
Internal Controls: Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
Audit Coordination: Coordinating external audits and liaising with auditors to provide requested documentation, answer inquiries, and ensure a smooth audit process.
Tax Compliance: Ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations by overseeing tax filings, coordinating with tax advisors, and providing guidance on tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
Financial Systems and Processes: Managing financial systems and processes, including accounting software, to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and enhance accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
Cash Management: Monitoring cash flow, liquidity, and working capital requirements to ensure the organization has adequate funds to meet its obligations and support business operations.
Financial Policy Development: Developing and implementing financial policies and procedures to ensure consistency, transparency, and compliance with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership: Leading and developing the finance team by providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to foster a high-performing and collaborative work environment.
Financial Strategy Support: Supporting senior management in developing financial strategies and initiatives.
Risk Management: Identifying financial risks and implementing strategies to mitigate them.
Qualifications:
Financial Expertise: A strong background in accounting, finance, and financial analysis. This includes a deep understanding of financial statements, accounting principles (GAAP or IFRS), budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
People Leadership: Experience leading accounting functions within an organization including the day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor team members to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insights to support decision-making. This includes the ability to conduct variance analysis, assess financial performance, and recommend strategic actions.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills are necessary for effectively communicating financial information to various stakeholders, including senior management, board members, and external auditors. Controllers must be able to convey complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner.
Technical Proficiency: Experience with ERP systems (such as SAP or Oracle) and the ability to manage financial data, generate reports, and ensure accuracy in financial transactions and records.
Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to financial reporting, tax laws, and auditing.
