The Residential Counselor works as part of a multi-disciplinary team in providing supervision to adult residents with severe and persistent mental illness. Our residential program includes both crisis stabilization and transitional housing services. The Residential Counselor provide services including but not limited to client supervision, transporting residents on outings, cleaning, cooking, crisis intervention, and medication management.

The Residential Counselor also supports and assists individuals in developing independent living skills and in meeting rehabilitation goals. Residential Counselor must demonstrate an acceptable level of maturity, good judgment and emotional stability. Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some weekend and overnight shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• PPD test for tuberculosis and satisfactory results
• CCL approved FBI and DOJ criminal background clearances
• Free from state sanctions
• CPR/First Aid/BLS certification
• Previous experience with population to be served and/or work in a similar program setting (preferred)
• Act as a team member providing input and reporting observations and concerns in regard to client symptoms and symptom management.
• Demonstrate the ability to act a part of a team and in an appropriate manner in a crisis situation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients being served.
• Assist/Perform all areas of bed side care and first aid as needed.
• Administer medication to all clients. Count and store medication in correlation to CCL and DHCS regulations. Document all medications on Centrally Stored and Destruction Records, create Medication Administration Records as per each doctor order, count and control all medication brought into and out of the facility.
• Maintain a professional working relationship with contract agency staff, doctors, clinicians and caseworkers.
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning meetings as related to clients.
• Any and all other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to climb stairs multiple times a day and be able to lift and/or carry 25 pounds or less.
• Ability to sit, rise, kneel, squat, twist, pull bend multiple times a day.
• Ability to handle hazardous waste (Blood borne pathogens, hospital waste, chemical &infectious) and sharp instruments and needles.
• Ability to stand throughout an eight (8) hour shift.

Employment is contingent upon meeting the above minimum qualifications and verification of previous employment and education.
