Responsibilities
About the Role:
Our team is looking for a motivated Lead Architect with a strong background in technology and business domains to act as a player/coach as we build our global advisory practice. This team member will work with internal product teams, Enterprise Architecture team, cyber and other key stake holders to implement API strategies by using unified platform and automated solutions. Serves as technical expert in API based applications and/or business architecture for product teams. The Architect will help to shape early-stage innovative concepts into prototypes and experiments by using their cloud architecture and development experience. This role is responsible for design and assists with the execution of experiments based on those designs in support of strategic discovery efforts. This role closely collaborates with the IT New Products department as well as key strategic business leaders.
- Establish and document full life cycle of API Governance standards and best practices
- Build out secure integration architecture to interface with a diverse set of systems
- Lead creation of standard solution architecture patterns for Enterprise API consumers/providers
- Establish API Governance model with guard rails to streamline design review and approval process
- Train others on REST APIs, microservices architecture and API Gateways, containers, and automation
- Drives towards industry standards and RESTful services, but understands limitations of legacy systems and identifies appropriate integration approaches
- Support SOAP/REST/Async API design, development, and operationalization standards Lead and coach others towards enablement of contemporary engineering and agile practices
- Drive improvement in the velocity, scale, and sophistication of engineering solutions
- Document the API landscape, identifying gaps between current systems and desired end-state; creating a roadmap to deliver end-state solutions
- Design and support experiments that develop ideas being explored by our strategic business partners
- Assist the IT New Products department with developing business cases by providing technicalexpertise and supporting documentation
- Advise ad-hoc teams of experimenters temporarily aligned to the execution of experiments
- Support and direct technical vendor resources that are aligned to the execution of experiments
- Ensure designs, experiments and initiatives are in line with the overall corporate initiatives, strategies and goals
- Support management in developing business strategy
- Assist in the implementation of emerging technologies and best practices
- Evaluate and select appropriate cloud solutions to meet organizational needs, considering security, scalability and cost-effectiveness
- Monitor the performance and utilization of APIs and cloud resources.
Qualifications
What makes you a dream candidate?
- Experience in BIAN and OAuth, Mutual SSL etc.
- Has detailed understanding and working experience of standardized API style guides (Naming Conventions, Structure Standardization, versioning, Error Handling Standardization, Format Support), API standards
- Experience in message modeling, XML, JSON, XSLT
Strong Background in Rest / SOAP based API development
Strong software engineering and experience with Twelve-Factor App methodology
- Experience in creating technical strategies and be able to make technical decisions
- Experience with Azure and/or AWS cloud services, and associated API platform software
Strong knowledge of Public Cloud Governance frameworks, architectures, configurations, services, and solutions, specifically preferably with Microsoft Azure, but expertise with other leading Cloud platforms may be substituted.
Strong knowledge in core Azure (or similar) services like Azure Kubernetes Service, CosmoDB, Azure
- Functions, Azure Storage Entities.
- Knowledge in Azure (or similar) organizational entities such as Departments, Accounts, Subscriptions, Resource Groups and Management Groups.
- Experience operating in an Agile delivery model.
- Experience with cloud-native and microservice architectures and an understanding of design principles for scalability, performance, and reliability.
- Experience with open source applications, frameworks, and libraries.
- Preferred knowledge of GM Financial’s IT systems.
- PowerPoint, Other presentation software packages.
- Creating technical documents to support business cases
- Have a good understanding of event driven architectures
- Good knowledge of Integration/API life cycle & Methodology
- Ability to “think big” and challenge conventional wisdom regarding technology refresh and hype
Strong leadership of cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of standards in IT architecture and infrastructure
- Ability to establish, implement, and enforce appropriate IT standards and enterprise guidelines to meet business requirements
- Should have excellent communication skills

Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Greater than 10 years designing and developing IT solutions required
- 7-10 years Solution Architecture experience required
- 6-8 years implementing large scale API based solutions with ESB/API tooling required
- 2-4 years leading an organization in the transition to a microservice architecture preferred

Salary
The base salary range for this role is: USD $97,500.00 to $185,400.00. At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits on day one of employment.
