Role Summary
A Food Chemist is responsible for supporting the Product Development Department by creating, formulating, developing, and evaluating flavored products. Knowledge of dietary/ nutraceutical ingredients along with working with flavoring systems is a strong plus.
Responsibilities
- Analyze formulations and independently develop and prepare benchtop testing of powder formulations ensuring that flavor meets project specifications while maintaining optimal margins
- Perform daily analytical tests including sensory, organoleptic, physical, and chemical evaluation of formulations
- Document observed results, analyze data, and draw conclusions to build internal database of formulation developments
- Update and maintain product formulations and ingredient databases
- Carry out R&D tests, record, keep and manage a laboratory notebook
- Complete assigned projects in a timely and professional manner ensuring all project meets all specifications provided from Product Development Department
- Support sales when customer visits are needed to provide technical assistance
- Help troubleshoot any production/operation issues
- Maintain and clean laboratory equipment
- Follow all quality and safety protocols and procedures
- Work closely with the QC/QA team.
Work Environment:
The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate. Field conditions vary. Exposed to various raw materials, including allergens (i.e., milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nut, peanuts, wheat, soy).
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for up to 2 hours at a time. May be required to work in restricted spaces and/or under difficult lighting and access conditions.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds.
Must be able to work independently, in a team environment, and drive projects to solutions. Will also be required to interact with clients as required in person, via email and or phone.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to use properly use such safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Business or other related fields

- Jr Food Chemist = 0 years of experience
- Food Chemist – 3 years of experience
- Food Chemist II – 5
- Knowledge of nutritional/dietary ingredients is a plus.
- Must be highly organized.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
