Title: ESOL Teacher
Qualifications:
- Certified to teach in South Carolina
- Holds current ESOL certification or in progress toward certification preferred
- Outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to keep concise records
- The ability to work with a diversity of individuals and groups
- Excellent problem solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans
- The ability to adapt to changing work priorities and maintain flexible working hours
- The ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships
Reports to: Director of Academic Intervention
Job Goal: To provide instruction to multilingual learners (MLs) to attain English proficiency
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assess English proficiency and create individual language acquisition plans using approved accommodations and program service delivery models to address learning needs
- Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards
- Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the district’s/school’s instructional program so as to ensure that students meet or exceed learning targets
- Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize teaching techniques and strategies that are proven to be effective for multilingual learners
- Address all aspects of communication through instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in academic content
- Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
- Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress, evidence of growth, and parent contact
- Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
- Support classroom teachers in the implementation of accommodations as outlined in plans
- Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed
- Participate in professional development as both a leader and learner
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding ESOL services
Terms of Employment: 190 day contact with salary determined by placement on district teacher salary schedule
Evaluation: Job performance evaluation annually in accordance with board policy
