Overview:

GSR Brands, the parent company of two iconic local Cincinnati restaurant brands, Gold Star and Tom & Chee, is seeking an experienced Controller to coordinate, administer, and control the financial operations of our dynamic and growing company. This key role will oversee all auditing, accounting, and reporting activities within multiple business units, including franchising, restaurants, wholesale manufacturing and real estate.

 

As Controller, you will be handling financial reporting tasks and ensuring compliance with financial regulations, working on tasks such as fixed asset schedules, tax preparation, payroll, invoicing, accounts payable, and bookkeeping. Responsibilities will also include cost comparison activities, financial forecasting, and conducting other analysis and assessments to improve the financial performance of the company. This executive will oversee the development of financial accounting systems required to maintain reporting requirements. GSR Brands Controller will work in partnership with the CFO, executive team and ownership to support budget planning and financial strategy.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounting team including Assistant Controller, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Retail Accounting
  • Provide technical accounting training and knowledge to members of the accounting team, providing those individuals with coaching, mentoring and growth opportunities (where possible)
  • Provide timely and accurate budgets, financial reports, and analysis to support the CFO or CEO
  • Manage annual audit and entity tax returns as to ensure compliance and quality
  • Manage fixed asset schedules for book and tax methods
  • Manage inventory reconciliation for commissary and retail divisions
  • Process builds of material changes to products
  • Manage monthly sales and use tax filings, and quarterly CAT filings
  • Process quarterly distributions
  • Provide accounting analysis on issues affecting the organization to support the CFO or CEO
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on accounting issues impacting department budgets
  • Work with banking and insurance relationships as they relate to the accounting processes and policies
  • Formulate and recommend accounting policies on banking, receipt, and disbursement of funds
  • Development of cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism to meet accounting needs
  • Enhance or develop and implement accounting policies and procedures that affect the financial reporting and analysis
  • Evaluate the accounting division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial reporting
  • Participate in those Human Resource activities (Interviewing, Selection, Training, Discipline, Termination, etc.) that are necessary within accounting
  • Coordinate the activities of accounting with those of other departments and/or work areas as necessary

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance., MBA or CPA preferred, not required
  • Minimum of 10 years accounting experience with at least three years in a managerial role; public accounting and small business experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge in Account Reconciliation, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll Processes, etc.
  • Technical and comprehensive knowledge of all finance, financial planning, accounting and tax areas of a business including an excellent understanding of GAAP
  • Experience with selecting and implementing accounting systems
  • Excellent computer skills including all MS Office applications. (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required
  • Must be efficient with strong attention to detail
  • Must have strong customer support orientation (for internal/external customers), demonstrated professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidential information
  • Must have strong skills in organization and planning, demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment and problem solving
  • Experience in a restaurant environment a plus

Physical Demands:

Some/certain aspects of the work performed are repetitive in nature during some portion of the entire work period/shift. Generally: will sit for prolonged periods of time, will type/enter data, walk/move about work area as necessary, and may lift items of moderate weight (up to 50 #).
