The position of the dispatcher is to assist in day to day port operations. Liaison between port authority, vessel, carriers, vendors, and shippers to ensure accuracy and timeliness. This position is ideal for a strong, detail oriented, and administrative professional, with expertise in operations, business systems, and working in a fast-moving environment
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Administration:
- Dispatch daily drivers, to ensure containers are picked up by LFD and customer preferences.
- Coordinate linehaul, port containers, air shipments, customs, while complying with port regulations.
- Trace inbound containers, schedule terminal appointments and provide status updates to appropriate offices.
- Coordinate export containers, ensuring appointments are met.
- Notifies shipment arrivals and departures
- Implement secretarial support by entering, formatting, and printing information; organizing work; answering the telephone; relaying messages; and maintaining supplies
- Provide backup assistance for invoicing and disputes
- Coordinates with claims department and carriers in handling damages freight
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, computer keyboarding skills, effective communication skills, friendly personality, organizational skills, and ability to respond to requests effectively and efficiently.
- Communicate politely and positively with Customers via phone, face to face, or email correspondence.
- Excellent computer skills and strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skill (both written and verbal), with all levels of management
- Government contracting experience
- Qualified applicants must pass a background check
- Efficient with Microsoft Office
Preferred Education/Training:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in business/engineering or closely related field. Significant related experience of 3-5 years may substitute for education
