Job Summary
The Specification Specialist will ensure a legally and technically compliant product is produced through the provision of accurate customer and supplier specifications. This position will ensure that customers are provided with the relevant information in line with their technical requirements as documented on finished product specifications and customer portals.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage the company software with respect to development of product and ingredient specifications including product life management and change management of raw materials and finished good specifications
  • Work collaboratively during the commercialization of new products to ensure all documentation is collected for any new raw material to ensure compliance with respective certification requirements
  • Complete a finished product specification by collaboration with cross functional partners via the commercialization process using the company software
  • Work with RDQ on secondary supplier ingredient approvals through ingredient specification verification. Secure sub-ingredient specifications as needed
  • Develop Ingredient specifications in the company software system
  • First point of contact for customer queries in relation to finished product specifications
  • Develop draft specifications in support of the sales and marketing process
  • Hold responsibility for the company’s portals with regard to the creation of customer specifications
  • Administer and oversee the regulatory approval process for marketing/advertising material and packaging to ensure accuracy of claims/labeling and compliance with regulations related to food, food safety, specifications, product usage, nutrition and health claims
  • Review and revise product labels to comply with regulations
  • Review Nutrition Facts Panel for new product launches and product life management
  • Monitor and track current FDA regulations and warning letters related to food labeling, nutrition, claims and food safety
  • Comply with all company rules, regulations, and policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Additional Skills:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Food Science or closely related discipline (Nutrition, Chemistry, Toxicology) with a minimum of 0 - 2 years regulatory experience, including experience with food or beverage regulated products
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations
  • Be a strong written and verbal communicator with experience of presenting to technical and non technical audiences
  • Be a skilled collaborator, with experience of working effectively in multi-functional teams
  • Have the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting agreed timelines with strong organizational skills
  • Have strong analytical, strategic thinking and planning skills and demonstrate critical attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficienct in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access
  • Knowledge of food industry a plus
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work without close supervision
  • Willingness and abiilty to work in a team envrionment
Travel:
  • This position will not require travel.
Work Environment:
  • Typical office environment
  • Offices with equipment noise
  • Offices with frequent interruptions
  • Mostly indoor office environment with windows
  • If time is needed in the plant, the employee may be subject to production environment approximately 85 percent of the work time. (Wet environment with temperatures in the range of 38 to 40 degrees)
  • Medium/High noise levels from operating machines
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to enforce Good Food Manufacturing (GMP’s) processes
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to communicate information accurately to others
  • Able to detect and discern sounds accurately in order to exchange information
  • Able to hold stationary positions for extended periods of time
  • Able to move throughout workspace frequently
  • Able to observe details at close range, perceive colored images as well as effectively perceive computer generated images on a screen
  • Frequently operates computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Able to move up to 40lbs. occasionally
