What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistants position at Good Night Pediatrics?
We are seeking pat-time Medical Assistants for a night-time pediatric urgent care in Avondale Arizona. We are open 365 nights of the year to include weekends and holidays. Typical shifts are 8 hours for full-time and 4-6 hours for part-time. We work to have a set schedule for our staff that allows for alternating weekends off. We currently need someone who can work Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and every other Saturday and Sunday.
Essential functions/Responsibilities
- Supports the mission, vision, and values of Good Night Pediatrics by demonstration of consistent excellent customer service.
- Establishes and maintains a work environment that is efficient, safe, and responsive to the needs of the patients, physicians and staff.
- Records and maintains patient data/treatment records and prepare reports as necessary.
- Maintains security and confidentiality of patient information in accordance with federal and state law.
- Uses electronic tools to complete job duties as assigned i.e. computer software programs, internet-based programs, scanners, etc.
- Ensures timely and accurate communication to Clinic Manager and Director of Operations or designee regarding billing services and issues.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, including, but not limited to state regulatory agencies, OSHA, and CLIA.
- Understands and follows infection control/universal precautions in the performance of all job tasks.
- Learns and complies with Good Night Pediatrics policies and procedures.
- Stocks and prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
- Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
- Inventories medical supplies and materials and reports needs to the Clinic Manager.
- Operates equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide care, within their scope of practice, to the pediatric population including, but not limited to, obtaining patient vitals; rooming patients; taking thorough and accurate patient histories; preparing and administering injections; administering treatments including SVNs, ear lavage, removal of sutures, applying dressings, and applying splints; performing routine laboratory tests including venipuncture, urine dips, and glucose testing; monitoring patients’ conditions and reactions and reporting abnormal signs to the physician; and assisting physicians with procedures and urgent care situations.
- Collaborates with other medical team members, such as physicians and radiology staff.
- Utilizes the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to document activities such as patient schedules, required payments received for services provided, laboratory results, response to treatment, and communications with providers, patients/parents/guardians.
- Performs administrative tasks, i.e. faxing, scanning, answering telephones, assisting parents/guardians with completion of registration forms.
- Completes cleaning and disinfecting procedures as assigned.
- Completes all assigned training in a timely manner.
- Pilots programs as identified by Senior Management.
Requirements
Education:
- Must provide proof of graduation from an approved Medical Assistant (MA) program or is a graduate of a US Armed Forces medical services program. For the purposes of this section a board approved MA training program is accredited by: the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.
- High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- Current hands-on CPR certification required.
Experience:
- 1 year of medical assistant experience required.
- Pediatric or Urgent Care experience strongly preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deal with pediatric patients in an acute care setting.
- Strong front and back office experience required.
- General knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment including Environmental Health Services, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Radiation Safety and Protection procedures.
- Maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Able to efficiently prioritize tasks.
- Computer experience, including prior entering date into an electronic health record system and Microsoft Office programs such as Excel and Outlook.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to deal with pediatric patients in an acute care setting.
- Experity EMR/PM experience
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) skills a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Must have proof of current COVID, Hep B and TB vaccines
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and assist patients on and off of exam tables.
- Pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and carrying are required.
- Standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods of time.
