BLS Ambulance Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Job Description: EMT for BLS transfer service

EMT duties: The primary purpose of this position is to respond to emergency and non-emergency BLS ambulance calls, provide medical services to the community, and non-emergency transport for inter-facility transfers. This position operates an ambulance and maintains a good working relationship with all customer groups and agencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates an ambulance and transport patients; operates non-emergency vehicles.

· Operates and monitors emergency medical equipment per EVO protocols.

· Communicates with hospitals or facilities while in transport or while responding to calls.

· Completes all required documentation and reporting in a timely and accurate manner.

· Adheres to all operating and safety policies and procedures.

· Decontaminates emergency vehicles after each run.

· Assists in maintaining supplies and equipment as well as general upkeep and cleaning of ambulances.

· Assist in patient care.

· Clean facilities. This duty is performed daily.

· Emergency scene management. This duty is performed daily.

· Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

REQUIREMENTS:

· High School diploma or equivalent

· Minimum Age of 21 (insurance carrier standard)

· Arkansas driver’s license with motor vehicle record that meets insurance carrier standards.

· Must be physically capable of performing job duties; pre-employment physical is required.

· Must pass pre-employment and ongoing random drug screening.

· Must pass state and federal background check.

· One year of driving experience preferred.

  • One year EMT experience preferred

· Must work 12-24 hour shifts. A dorm setting and private room will be provided.

· BLS or equivalent certification (American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross only)

· Emergency Medical Tech (EMT- B)

· Willingness to perform other roles such as wheelchair transports as needed.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

· Frequently lifts 100 lbs. Carrying and lifting stretchers with and without patients.

· Pushing, pulling, and carrying various medical equipment, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting, walking, running.

· Driving, using 2-way radio and other devices.

· Ability to work outdoors in wet, dry, hot and cold (sometimes below freezing) weather.

· Respirator use may be required on occasion.

· Hearing by audiometric testing that demonstrates no worse than a moderate loss of hearing in one ear or no more than a mild loss of hearing in both ears.

· Requires corrected or uncorrected vision of 20/20 in each eye and with both eyes together.

· Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and expectations.

ABILITIES:

· Ability to speak clearly and effectively in person and over the phone and radio.

· Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.

· Ability to remain calm during stressful situations.

· Ability to present a caring and professional image.

· Ability to read and comprehend maps and directions.

· Ability to communicate with other emergency services, such as firefighters and police officers, to respond to calls for help.

· Ability to offer quick problem-solving skills.

· This is a safety-sensitive position.

Hours & Pay:

  • Shift rotation will be 12-24 hour rotating shifts (flexible). Employees are required to stay in a dorm setting with a private room during the 24-hour scheduled shift.
  • Pay will range from $14-$16/hour depending on experience and OT allowed. Willingness to work all shifts- weekends, holidays, and overnights.
  • Full and Part Time positions available.
  • Full time employees can expect 40 or more hours of OT every 2 weeks.

Benefits Offered:

As an employee of Good Shepherd, you will be eligible for 1 week of PTO (paid time off) after your first year of employment. Good Shepherd offers medical, dental, vision and life insurance to all employees and the company will pay 70% of the medical premiums for the employee only - a 60 day wait period applies and an average of 30 hours worked per week is required. After 6 months of employment (or 1000 hours worked, whichever comes first), you will be eligible for the 401K program. If you contribute up to 3%, Good Shepherd will, match 100%; the next 2% will be matched at 50% by Good Shepherd.

Good Shepherd will provide polo shirts, jacket and ball cap. Employee will provide black EMS boots and black EMS pants.

Continuing Education and renewal assistance provided.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $16.50 per hour
