Job Developer

Position summary: The Job Developer is responsible for developing employment opportunities and negotiating job placements for people with disabilities and those facing other barriers to employment. The Job Developer will assess the needs and abilities of individuals, work with local businesses to determine the employer’s needs, design and implement placement plans, training and support strategies to ensure a successful and sustainable work experience for Goodwill participants.

Essential functions:

  • Work with the business community to secure employment sites for participants consistent with their identified needs and goals.
  • Develop appropriate participant placement plans and maintains progress reports.
  • Provide training for participants to achieve personal goals, develop job retention skills, and increase self-motivation and confidence. Follow-up with participants who have secured jobs for a minimum of 90 days.
  • Develop and maintain a network of community support service providers to assist participants with appropriate additional training and access to competitive jobs.
  • Closely monitor scheduling, travel time and other factors to maintain profitable ratios.
  • Provide advocacy and promote adjustment in the work environment by assuring that a participant’s work-related needs are met and that his/her rights and dignity are safe guarded.
  • Participate in case reviews, staff meetings and goal planning for each participant as needed.
  • Establish professional, productive and cordial relationships with state and local rehabilitative and developmental disabilities agencies resulting in a steady revenue stream of referrals to support program activities.
  • Represent Goodwill in the social services community; attend meetings including rehabilitation and residential service providers and required training; serve as an advocate for people with disabilities in the four-county service area.
  • Assist Mission Services Administrative Assistant to ensure accurate reports and information are received by established deadlines for billing purposes.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Attend safety trainings and follow all safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe and supervised work environment for all employees at all times.
  • Promote positive teamwork among co-workers.
  • Pursue professional career development through continuing education and training opportunities.
  • Responsible for other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications and required skills:

  • Experience working directly with individuals in the rehabilitative or developmental disabilities field.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability and time management skills are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background screen/fingerprint check.
  • Valid Driver’s License with good driving record, proof of current automobile insurance required every six months.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Education and experience:

  • High School Diploma required; Associate’s Degree in a Social Services field preferred.
  • Two years experience working with people with disabilities in rehabilitation related field preferred.
  • Annual certifications required in First Aid and CPR.
