What are the responsibilities and job description for the Retail Team Member (Full Time w/Benefits) position at Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan?

Our team members provide excellent service to customers and donors, process textiles and hard goods for placement on sales floor, perform cashier functions, load and unload goods from customer vehicles, assist in the flow of production in the processing area. Applicants should possess strong organization skills, an orientation to customer service, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Primary Responsibilities:

Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.

Perform work in a safe manner observing all Goodwill safety policies and procedures.

Perform duties and interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner. Respect the diversity of others including, but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible or non-visible disabilities

Is aware and knowledgeable of Goodwill's full range of merchandise and general pricing structures.

Perform all day to day operational functions of the store (run register, write sold tickets, and receipts, stock shelves, counters, tables and hang garments, sell merchandise, rotate goods, assist customers )

Set up advertising signs and displays or arrange merchandise on counters, tables or shelves to attract customers and promote sales.

Obtain merchandise requested by customer or receive merchandise selected by customer.

Provide customers with excellent service. Answer customer questions concerning location, price and use of merchandise.

Perform cashier duties as assigned. Operate cash register, which includes sales transactions, payments, refunds and end of day register processing.

Is accountable for proper register balances and for unauthorized removal of any merchandise from the store.

Wrap or bag merchandise for customers.

If needed, transport purchased merchandise to specified vehicles for customers.

Maintain clean and orderly work area.

Stock, straighten, and clean the sales floor.

Clean shelves, counters, or tables.

Remove empty hangers and outdated merchandise according to rotation schedule.

Remove clothes from fitting rooms and re-hang as necessary.

Answer telephone and provide announcements over store paging system as needed.

Process and price textiles and wares within established time-frames, and consistently meet established goals.

Transport items to and from sales floor.

Adhere to agency attendance policy.

Cooperate with all Goodwill personnel maintaining a positive attitude toward customers and employees.

Promote Goodwill in a positive way both internally and externally, realizing that each individual is an important part of the Goodwill Story.

Understand and comply with Goodwill safety program. Alert supervisor of unsafe practices or situations. Continually support the agency safety program and contribute to customer and employee safety.

Help train new staff and clients as directed by supervisor.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Reports to:

Store manager and assistant managers as well as team leads.

Ability to work effectively with diverse staff, youth, community service volunteer, customers and vendors.

Ability to work independently and be flexible in a multi-duty environment.

Ability to work within established guidelines.

Ability to receive and disperse cash accurately.

Must be able to perform basic math functions.

Fundamental ability to understand, accept and work with people who have disabilities and/or other barriers to employment.

Positive, can do attitude with a strong commitment to teamwork.

Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

While performing duties, is required to stand, walk, use hands, talk and/or hear. Reaches with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, twist, turn, and crouch. Specific vision abilities required by job include color vision. Often lifts and/or moves up to 10 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work is repetitive in nature. May be required to stand for up to 8 hours during a shift.
