Job Description
JOB FUNCTION:
Primary duties include moving of RAW donated materials, all salvage commodities/sorts, trash, equipment/fixtures or other designated materials on/off trucks and sorting properly into the designated locations within the plant through the Kaizen system. Full compliance to Kaizen guidelines/principles as outlined in the audit and 5-minute drills. Will assist in all areas of the salvage sorting process and cross train to cover other specified job descriptions within the plant as needed. Leads areas of the operation and provides assignments as needed for Material Handler I’s. Provide excellent customer service to the stores, admin, and all other vendors/donors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Passes all OSHA standards for proper use/operation of forklift and obtains certification
- Operates forklift in the facility and dock to load/unload trucks and organize materials to their respective designated locations. Requires ability to stack/unstuck materials safely
- Adheres to pre/post checklist for Fork-lift
- Able to perform basic duties of Material Handler III during his/her absence
- Scheduling loads
- Arranging pickup/delivery of metal/plastic roll offs
- Designate assignments to Material Handler I employees
- Provides weekly inventories every Monday, as outlined on the inventory form
- Sufficient mobility to turn from side to side, lean, kneel or bend to perform all processing requirements in the facility or dock
- Manually, using hand truck, or pallet jack performs various material handling duties on the dock, facility or exterior areas of the plant.
- Ability to operate all tipping, baling and shredding equipment as designated by their supervisor
- Follows all policies and procedures as outlined by Goodwill Industries of SWFL, Inc.
- Manually loads materials or products into Gaylord’s, Balers, or Pallets according to each specific sorting process
- Meets or exceeds all processing goals for each respective salvage commodity as designated by Goodwill Industries of SWFL, Inc.
- Weighs and records Gaylord’s, Containers and Hoppers to track diversion pounds
- Properly label Gaylord’s, Containers, Hoppers, Totes, Barrels and other designated holding units according to content (RAW or SALVAGE)
- Properly records production, per hour, on designated forms and turns in reports to their respective supervisors
- Provides appropriate customer service on Outlet floor
- Remains in assigned areas at all times
- Places empty Containers, Hoppers, Barrels, Totes in their designated locations
- Stacks empty pallets in designated location
- Places Hazardous materials in designated location
- Loads and/or unloads trucks while servicing homes, stores, attended donations centers, and on the loading dock.
- Places trash into the proper container and moves container to proper location (including outside designations) for disposal or dispose into compactor.
- After loading materials onto the truck, installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit
- Places all fixtures/equipment into the proper locations as labeled
- Maintain a positive attitude in dealing with customers, clients and co-workers
- Helps keep all areas clean and neat.
- Support safety program and perform all duties in accordance with the same.
- Uses all appropriate safety PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) and follows all safety practices.
- Maintain well-groomed appearance and appropriate dress code.
- Practices all aspects of our customer service program.
- Wears name badge during business hours
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to listen to and follow instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to ambulate independently, to stoop, bend, kneel, push, and pull
- Ability to see and recognize colors
- Ability to lift forty (40) pounds and two-team lift bulky items or items over the 40 pound designation.
- Ability to adhere to major and minor work rule policies regarding safety
- Ability to report any incident/accident to the Manager on Duty
- Ability to immediately correct unsafe conditions or notify Manager on Duty
- Good communication skills
- Good judgment, patience, and understanding
- Knowledge of basic math skills
- Ability to keep work free from clutter to avoid injury to co-workers and customers.
- Proactively seek knowledge on services
- May have to occasionally work outdoors where temperatures and climate can fluctuate
- Understand and follow oral instructions
- Ability to work under stressful conditions
- Be able to work a flexible schedule.
- Assist driver in parking at stores, warehouse lot, and dock.
- Assist driver in directions during house pick-ups or other special assignments.
