Custodian / Maintenance Support (F/T w/Benefits)

The custodian maintains environmental and infection control standards within established policies and procedures of the Goodwill Inn. The position performs a variety of general cleaning and light maintenance tasks to maintain guest rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the facility. The position follows standard practices and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan
2. Perform work in a safe manner observing all Goodwill safety policies/procedures
3. Perform duties and interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.
4. Respect the diversity of others including, but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities
5. Use approved methods and materials in cleaning and caring for assigned facility such as, but not limited to:

1. 1. Wet-mop rooms, halls, and other areas; shampoos rugs, and furniture.
   2. Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls of bathrooms.
   3. Cleans vents, windows, window sills, walls fan fixtures, top of windows, doorframes, and other high areas using a ladder.
   4. Dusts furniture, woodwork, and equipment.
   5. Operates mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, snow blowers, shampooers, and related environmental service equipment.
   6. Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using specified bags or containers.
   7. Stocking restrooms, janitorial closets, and break rooms.
   8. Laundry as needed for sheets and towels.
2. Performs terminal cleaning procedures of guest rooms, preparing them for new guest(s); follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
3. Keep storage areas clean and orderly, housekeeping cart well-stocked, and order supplies as necessary.
4. Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required.
5. Perform general groundskeeping functions - weeding, spreading mulch, snow removal, etc.
6. Light building maintenance and minor repairs such as changing furnace filters, basic plumbing, basic electrical and painting. Basic carpentry skills including ability to read a tape measure.
7. Promptly report needed building and equipment repairs and hazardous conditions to management.
8. Assists with evacuations, when needed.
9. Other duties as assigned by the Facilities and Maintenance Manager

Reports to: Goodwill Inn Operations Manager with a dotted line to Facilities and Maintenance Manager.

Supervises: No one

Education, Licenses, Certifications, and Experience:

• Proven custodial / janitorial experience.
• Knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
• Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices.
• Prior maintenance experience.
• High school diploma is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
• Good reading and verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow basic verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
• Ability to see details at a close range (within a few feet of observer).
• Previous experience working with the homeless population is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Very good physical condition and strength.
• Walk, stand, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, turn, walk, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to climb a ladder.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and occasional heavy lifting exerting 50-100 pounds of force.
• Work in and out of doors. Some exposure to inclement weather when working out of doors.
