What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Service Worker Team Lead - Goodwill Inn (F/T w/Benefits) position at Goodwill Northern Michigan?
This position is responsible for overseeing, and in times executing, the day-to-day operations of the Goodwill Inn. Available to work scheduled rotating shifts, including overnights, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.
Primary Responsibilities/ Essential Functions:
- Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.
- Perform work in a safe manner observing all Goodwill safety policies/procedures.
- Perform duties and interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.
- Respect the diversity of others including, but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities.
- Ensures the confidentiality of all persons served.
- Provides a safe, dignified and respectful environment for all persons served.
- Leads Human Service Workers in conducting day-to-day shelter operations.
- Models best practices and coaches Human Service Workers to maintain a safe, dignified and respectful environment for all Goodwill clients, visitors, and staff.
- Assists Operations Manager in implementing and enforcing policies and procedures with a 'Housing First' philosophy, emphasizing best practices for Housing-Focused, Low-Barrier shelter operations.
- Ensures that shelter policies and procedures are clearly communicated and available to persons served.
- Schedules and conducts HSW trainings and certifications, including general duties and job functions, required safety drills, HMIS operations, and Goodwill policies and procedures.
- Maintains up-to-date training manuals, safety inspections and other materials related to operating the Goodwill Inn and contracted shelter operations as needed.
- Supports Operations Manager in quarterly developmental conversations with HSWs and provides growth opportunities for team members.
- Develops weekly schedules for complete shift coverage at Goodwill Inn.
- Maintains accurate and complete client documentation.
- Ensures timely and accurate transfer of information across shifts.
- Facilitates and responds to guest and/or staff disputes and/or grievances.
- Maintains Department of Health and Human Services, Veterans Affairs, and other shelter billing contracts completion and accuracy.
- Provides after-hours on-call support for shelter staff as needed.
- Fills HSW shifts as required (with proper notification).
- Coordinates maintenance of property and plant of the Goodwill Inn, including ordering supplies, requesting work orders, staying within the operating budget.
- Maintains up-to-date record keeping for inspections required both internally and by other organizations such as CARF, Salvation Army, Veteran's Administration, Fire Marshall, etc.
- Follows all procedures for documentation of any injury or incident on Goodwill Inn property.
- Attends trainings and staff meetings as scheduled.
- Other duties as assigned by the Inn Operations Manager.
Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1 - 3 years' experience working with people experiencing homelessness, ideally in a shelter setting.
- Bachelor's degree in human services related field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with local human service providers and other community resources and agencies.
- Strong working knowledge of Housing First principles and practices.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Strong computer skills in excel, Microsoft word, etc.
- The ability to multi-task.
- The ability to delegate respectfully, appropriately, and effectively.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to persons with disabilities or who are disadvantaged.
- Knowledge of treatment issues related to homeless populations.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing, lifting, carrying, pushing, bending, kneeling, reaching, walking, walking on uneven surfaces, hearing, seeing, twisting, turning and repetitive movement.
- Ability to do medium lifting, 20-30 pounds, and occasional heavy lifting.
