Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm

OBJECTIVE:
The objective of the Safety and Loss Prevention Specialist I is to assist and implement the organizational safety program, ensuring a safe and healthy workplace, and to oversee multiple aspects of loss prevention, aimed at minimizing loss of company assets through internal and external theft/fraud. This is a Specialist I position, and the successful applicant will be responsible for implementation, continual improvement and day to day support of these corporate programs.
Works under the general supervision of the Director, Risk Management and will be in communication with most other departments within Goodwill of Colorado as well as outside agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Educational requirement: Bachelor’s degree, or four or more years of qualified experience
• A minimum of two years safety expertise
• Technical skills required: Microsoft Office and internet experience are highly desirable for this position.
• Must have valid Colorado State Driving license
• Must be able to clearly communicate with staff and site managers and be able to write in an organized and concise manner.
• Must be available during evening and weekend hours when needed.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES
• Completion of OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour General Industry Outreach Training preferred
• Excellent written, verbal, and group presentation communication skills
• Ability to collaborate with multiple departments
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:
SAFETY
• Ensure compliance with local, state and Federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations
• Assist in planning and maintenance of the organization’s Disaster Recovery Plans and Emergency Action Procedures
• Maintains the organizations Monthly Safety Training program and provides job specific training e.g. Lock out Tag Out and Forklift Training.
• Maintains Fire Prevention program, and monitors correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials – regular inspection of Safety Data Sheets.
• Coordinates organizations CPR and First Aid program
• Perform Accident and Safety investigations to identify root cause and establish preventative measures
• Perform Job Hazard Analysis to identify risk of injury/accident exposure and counter with preventative measures
• Perform Quarterly Audits of organization facilities to detect existing/potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective/preventative measures and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
• Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
• Maintains safety files and records.
• Act as standing member of the Safety Committee and coordinates Monthly Safety Representative Meetings and training sessions.
• Coordinates organizations Active Shooter Program
• Leads monthly drills and tracks participation of emergency evacuation procedures.
LOSS PREVENTION
• Oversees investigation of individuals apprehended for shoplifting and internal theft in accordance with local, State and Federal laws, as well as company policy
• Prepare monthly Loss Prevention reports and data analysis for purpose of identifying trends and loss exposure
• Prepare investigative reports in timely fashion for Risk Director, as well as working with HR and management of the area investigated for any personnel corrective action(s).
• Perform Loss Prevention Audits at retail sites and communicate with Risk Director on audit results and trends.
• Conduct surveillance and monitoring as needed
• Coordinate Risk Mitigation efforts in all areas of the business
• Act as liaison between the organization and vendor(s) responsible for site access, alarm monitoring and security cameras
• Develop and support Asset Protection Officers in their role to minimize loss within the organization – to include shift scheduling and approving timesheets.
• Act as appropriate liaison between the organization and law enforcement authorities as appropriate.
• Create associate awareness related to internal and external theft, operational deficiencies and physical security.
STANDARDS FOR MEASURING PERFORMANCE
• Completeness, accuracy, and punctuality of reports and other assignments.
• The ability to assist the Organization in meeting or exceeding accreditation standards approved or endorsed by Goodwill Industries International (GII) and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
• Responsibility shown in ensuring all risk management, safety, workers’ compensation, loss prevention, and financial information is kept confidential.
• Ability to meet deadlines and respond to special requests and expressed desires of the Director of the Risk Department.
• Reflect a high standard of integrity
Travel is required. The Safety Specialist will be required to visit their stores for audits, site visits, injury investigations, safety training sessions, and to assess safety concerns.
Per contract requirements with vehicle insurance provider: Qualified candidates must be 21 years of age and have no major traffic violations for previous 3 years (for driving/insurance purposes). Must have reliable transportation; must also be able to operate company vehicle.
