What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Programmer position at GORDON ALUMINUM INDUSTRIES?

Under the direction of a Manufacturing Engineer or Engineering Manager, the CNC Programmer / Engineering Technician will assist with NPL’s through part programming and fixture development, works towards Continuous Improvement of existing products, and provide technical support to the operations team as needed. The CNC Programmer / Engineering Technician will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

· Writes programs in the language of a machines controller and manage file directories for accuracy.

· Possesses a strong understanding of Mastercam and the principles of machining to select the proper tooling and establish appropriate cutting parameters.

· Determines the sequence of machine operations, and selects the proper cutting tools needed to attain the highest quality part in the most efficient manor, while achieving the greatest part profitability.

· Demonstrates strong understanding and ability to read and edit programs for identifying errors and efficiency opportunities.

· Observes and analyzes machining cycles to identify and correct waste and saving opportunities.

· Exhibits the ability to setup all CNC equipment and prove out newly developed programs.

· Derives work instructions or setup sheets to effectively communicate required procedure to the operations team.

· Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot medium to high complexity problems through analyzing information and evaluating results to propose and choose the best solutions.

· Shows initiative, identifies meaningful improvement opportunities and promptly seeks his or her next task, while requiring minimal supervision.

· Ability to manage and prioritize his or her schedule and workload for on time delivery of tasks and projects.

· Performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Federal, State, and local standards and regulations.

· Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding safety and standards of workplace behavior, in completing job duties and assignments

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Proficient with blue print reading and basic metrology. Calipers, micrometers, indicators, depth micrometers, etc.

· Strong and effective communicator, both verbally and written.

· Basic Microsoft Office skills. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk or hear. The position is also regularly required to walk, use hands to grasp, hold, handle, reach with arms and hands, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and heat while in the shop. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
