Director of Technology
POSITION PURPOSE: The purpose of the position is to oversee all aspects of technology, including but not limited to: technology planning, purchasing and inventory, security, educational support, maintenance, supervision, and communication. Reports to the Associate Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of the Goshen Community Schools technology staff. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected, along with accountability for meeting timelines and goals. Essential functions may include:
- Development of a strategic plan that provides goals and strategies to guide the implementation of technology for Goshen Community Schools that is aligned with the district’s mission and goals
- Align all IT strategic planning to district strategic plans and goals in order for technology to serve the purpose of achieving District goals.
- This strategic plan will provide comprehensive timelines, budgets, resource requirements, communications, staffing requirements, etc.
- Align budgets with the strategic plan with clear funding sources that can be modified to reflect available funds accurately.
- Fiscal budgeting and long-range forecasting processes should incorporate capital and operational expenditures for all initiatives planned for implementation in the appropriate fiscal year.
- Leads department of skilled and effective staff, able to support the learning mission of Goshen Community Schools
- Supervises all technology services staff with direct responsibility for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Develops, reviews, and monitors district-level technology policy and procedure that supports the use of technology while protecting students and staff.
- Maintaining the safety and security of all computer systems for Goshen Community Schools.
- Maintaining the safety and security of all digital information for the Goshen Community Schools.
- Collaborating with district and school leadership on planning and implementing technology solutions.
- Knowledge of technology-related Department of Education policies and ensures compliance with such policies.
- Other duties as assigned by Superintendent/designee.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field.
- Five plus years working in a school technology department or related experience.
- Organized self-starter that collaborates well with those within the GCS community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Works well with others from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various known variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
- Considerable responsibility for general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work, in addition to the work operations of a group of employees
- Ability to focus on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others without interrupting, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others’ ideas, and contributing to building a positive team spirit.
- Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing
- Ability to effectively present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one, small group situations with students and other school staff.
WORK CALENDAR: 52 weeks; 249 days per year; 40 hours per week
