Construction Teacher - Classroom and Lab

  

Position Overview: We are seeking a qualified and experienced High School Construction Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching students the fundamentals of construction in both a classroom setting and a hands-on construction lab. The teacher will inspire students to explore careers in construction, develop practical skills, and understand the importance of safety and quality in the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction and Curriculum Development:
    • Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that cover various aspects of construction, including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical work, and other relevant topics.
    • Integrate real-world construction practices and standards into the curriculum.
    • Prepare students for industry certifications and career readiness.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and learning.
    • Manage classroom behavior effectively to maintain a productive learning atmosphere.
  • Lab and Hands-On Instruction:
    • Supervise and instruct students in a construction lab setting, ensuring the safe use of tools and equipment.
    • Provide hands-on training in construction techniques, safety procedures, and project management.
    • Oversee the completion of student projects from planning to execution.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Assess student progress through various methods, including exams, quizzes, projects, and practical demonstrations.
    • Provide constructive feedback and support to help students improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure that all classroom and lab activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
    • Conduct regular safety drills and training sessions for students.
  • Career Guidance and Mentorship:
    • Advise students on career pathways in the construction industry, including opportunities for apprenticeships, internships, and further education.
    • Foster relationships with industry professionals to provide students with networking opportunities.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and educational practices through professional development activities.
    • Participate in school and district professional development sessions and meetings.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work collaboratively with other teachers, administrators, and community partners to enhance the construction program.
    • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about student progress and opportunities in the construction field.

Qualifications:

  • At least one of the following: 4,000 hours of experience in construction, a degree in Construction Management or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree in education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the building trades industry.
  • Teaching experience is a plus but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of construction principles and techniques.
  • Ability to work well with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Certification in a specific building trade (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical work) is a plus.

 

WORK CALENDAR:  School year - 184 days per year; 40 hours per week

 

SALARY:  Teaching Contract – 184 days
