Construction Teacher - Classroom and Lab
Position Overview: We are seeking a qualified and experienced High School Construction Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching students the fundamentals of construction in both a classroom setting and a hands-on construction lab. The teacher will inspire students to explore careers in construction, develop practical skills, and understand the importance of safety and quality in the construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction and Curriculum Development:
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that cover various aspects of construction, including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical work, and other relevant topics.
- Integrate real-world construction practices and standards into the curriculum.
- Prepare students for industry certifications and career readiness.
- Classroom Management:
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and learning.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to maintain a productive learning atmosphere.
- Lab and Hands-On Instruction:
- Supervise and instruct students in a construction lab setting, ensuring the safe use of tools and equipment.
- Provide hands-on training in construction techniques, safety procedures, and project management.
- Oversee the completion of student projects from planning to execution.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assess student progress through various methods, including exams, quizzes, projects, and practical demonstrations.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to help students improve their skills and knowledge.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all classroom and lab activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Conduct regular safety drills and training sessions for students.
- Career Guidance and Mentorship:
- Advise students on career pathways in the construction industry, including opportunities for apprenticeships, internships, and further education.
- Foster relationships with industry professionals to provide students with networking opportunities.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and educational practices through professional development activities.
- Participate in school and district professional development sessions and meetings.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with other teachers, administrators, and community partners to enhance the construction program.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians about student progress and opportunities in the construction field.
Qualifications:
- At least one of the following: 4,000 hours of experience in construction, a degree in Construction Management or a related field, or a bachelor’s degree in education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the building trades industry.
- Teaching experience is a plus but not required.
- Strong knowledge of construction principles and techniques.
- Ability to work well with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
- Certification in a specific building trade (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical work) is a plus.
WORK CALENDAR: School year - 184 days per year; 40 hours per week
SALARY: Teaching Contract – 184 days
