What are the responsibilities and job description for the Expressive Group Counselor position at Gosnold?
SUMMARY: The Expressive Group Counselor will provide meditation, movement, and yoga-based groups. This position will demonstrate and teach the practices of meditation, body movement, and yoga and will implement sound bath programming, connecting these evidence-based methodologies to their practical applications for the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders within the Partial Hospital Program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide mindfulness-based groups, including meditation, movement, yoga, and sound healing focused on mental health and holistic wellbeing.
- Consult with patients and staff, both prior to and during treatment sessions, to make appropriate assessment of the patient’s health status to provide safe movement and/or yoga-based groups.
- Provide wellness group activities for patient community for symptom relief and as part of specific initiatives, such as anxiety and early recovery symptomology reduction.
- Document treatments in the electronic medical record (EMR) system as appropriate and relevant to the type of treatment; maintain any documentation needed for billing requirements.
- Utilize existing evidence-based knowledge and increase knowledge of health issues related to substance use and mental health disorders.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills; has the ability to work with a diverse patient population and as part of a clinical treatment team.
- Collaborate with the patient’s care team as needed to ensure prescribed treatment plan is compatible with recommendations from other team members and meets both the needs and treatment goals of the patient.
- Exhibit a professional and caring approach with patients in understanding their needs and providing treatments.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and maintain sound practice with respect to universal precautions and any equipment used in teaching groups.
- Incorporate and teach breathing techniques as part of group programming, anchoring these strategies as a foundational practice in mindfulness and meditation.
- Educate patients and staff about the benefits of group programming for physical and mental/emotional wellbeing.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, Experience, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

- Education: Master’s degree in a behavioral-health-related field and current yoga certification.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a certified yoga instructor; group experience required; experience providing services in a behavioral health setting preferred.
