Position Summary
The Payroll Accountant reports directly to the Finance Director and is responsible for all payroll processing and accounting functions for both bi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls. This is a specialized role requiring accurate and detailed record-keeping, a high-level of quality assurance, and accounting knowledge. This position requires an objective acceptance of payroll data and a high-level of confidentiality.
Key Accountabilities
- Enters, maintains, and processes information in the payroll system including detailed review of timecards, for both bi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls.
- Prepares journal entries to record payroll transactions and reconciles payroll withholding accounts.
- Performs additional accounting duties including bank reconciliations, working to ensure accuracy of financial statements.
- Assists employees with payroll questions or issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree (two-year or four-year) in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration strongly preferred.
- A minimum of two years of Payroll or Bookkeeping experience required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to handle competing priorities and deadlines by demonstrating excellent time management skills.
- Works effectively and collaboratively in a team environment or independently as required.
