Financial Controller

What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage accounting operations and staff including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Account Payable, Payroll, Time/Expense Software
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting
- Issue timely and complete financial statements
- Research technical accounting issues for compliance
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
- Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
- Process payroll in a timely manner
- Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
- Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
- Maintain the chart of accounts
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system and system of controls over accounting transactions
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
- Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filing
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field
- 10 years of experience of combined accounting and progressively responsible finance experience for a company with more than 10 employees or in a division of a large corporation. An advanced degree in Accounting may substitute for two years of accounting experience.
- Preferred experience with Deltek Software expertise- Ajera or Vision
- Attention to detail, organized thinking, and the ability to be flexible
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to follow directions and learn quickly
- Must exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills
Marginal Job Functions
- May answer company telephone and redirect calls.
- May run job-related errands such as dropping or picking up copies and deliveries or necessary project supplies.
- Assist with maintaining a clean office environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven working experience as a Financial controller
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience with creating financial statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skill
- Mastery of accounting software
- Proficient in working with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

- Must be organized and efficient with time management
- Must be very flexible, willing to switch tasks often and maintain a high level of availability
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clients, vendors and friends of GPA
- Must be trustworthy
- Must be able to follow directions and learn quickly
- Must have a reliable mode of transportation, and valid California Driver’s License and Automobile Insurance and be a driver in good standing with the California Department of Motor Vehicles
- Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift; carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and coordination including use of a computer keyboard
- Must be able to multi task and work amid frequent interruptions
