What are the responsibilities and job description for the Installation Technician position at Gpac?
As an Installation Technician, your primary job is to scope out, program, install, troubleshoot, maintain, remove, and service two-way mobile radios, repeaters, tablets, wireless modems, speakers, lights, sirens, center consoles, antennas, other accessories, and all necessary wiring into customer vehicles. These vehicles include everything from police cruisers, K-9 vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, public works plow trucks, school buses, tow trucks and an array of other commercial vehicles. In this position, you will be issued a company service vehicle, gas card and the equipment you need to be successful. You will be tasked out by our service coordinator and will be dispatched from your home location or our office. We are looking for qualified individuals with installation experience, and those who are looking for a new career opportunity with room to grow in our company.
Working Conditions
• Ability to work business hours M-F 8am to 4:30pm
• Reporting to customer locations all over the tri-state area, dispatched from home
location and /or office
• Issued a company service vehicle and gas card
• Willing to travel to the office as directed for training
Duties & Responsibilities
• Understand and fully utilize service software as is required to execute your job
• Receive a task and complete job tasks as assigned by the Service Coordinator
• Intelligently plan and install two-way radios and related equipment into different @types
of vehicles
• Ability to properly diagnose and correct a charge guard/power drain/ no power issue
• Be familiar with center consoles to include the different brands, radio brackets, filler
plates, etc.
• Assist a sales rep or service coordinator in scoping out and quoting a vehicle install
• Follow our “Opportunity to Close Out Process” and others as required
• Program portable and mobile radios using correct software and cables
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair/replace antenna lines, power lines, and antennas
• Run RF cabling, power lines, antenna lines and CAT5/6 Cabling as needed
• Cut, splice, and terminate wiring with correct endpoints and hardware as needed
• Understand AC/DC voltage and power systems
• Install power supplies, distribution panels, backup power systems and batteries
• Maintain all company issued tools and equipment and ensure serviceability
• Maintain company issued vehicle and ensure it is serviced at regular intervals
• Understanding of Ohms Law
• Understanding of RF theory and antenna propagation
• Work closely with Service Coordinator to ensure timely completion of work
• Assist Service Coordinator as needed with customer and job information
• Assist other technicians with on-site installation
Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED
Additional consideration for:
• Technical training and certifications (OSHA, R56, Motorola, Kenwood, Harris, etc.)
• Related military experience/MOS training
• Electrical Engineering or Computer Science degree
