POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is part of the Central Engineering Department at Grain Processing Corporation (GPC), located in Muscatine, IA. This role facilitates preparation of project scope, design, scheduling of resources and oversight of construction for assigned projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare project scope statement for projects involving:
o Replacement, quality improvements, environmental, cost reduction, profit improvement, new products, and/or increased production of existing products
• Initiate innovations with respect to process and equipment modifications or changes which improve operating conditions, safety, energy conservation, environmental concerns, and/or profitability.
• Manage capital and expense projects from conception to production, including preparation of financial justification, specifying, purchasing, as well as tracking project spending
• Complete design, scheduling, and construction of assigned projects, with due regard for:
o Safety (in design, construction and the operation constructed
o Equipment sizing
o Energy efficiency
o Initiate purchase of all material and equipment necessary for completion of project, with particular emphasis on material selection regarding corrosion and erosion resistance
o Design in compliance with input from Operations, Environmental, and Safety
o Coordination with Production management
o Installation with minimal disruption of existing production
o Completion on schedule and within approved cost
o Compliance with applicable codes, regulations, standards, and good practice
o Documentation of necessary record information
o Permitting – Environmental, Building, Corps of Engineers, etc.
o Budget compliance
• Execute PSM Management of Change procedures and Pre-startup Safety Reviews as appropriate
• Work with internal resources and outside engineering firms on:
o Project/process design
o Building design
o 3D models, structural, mechanical & piping drawings, P & ID's PFD's
o Specifications
o Construction management
• Prepare bids, review and discuss planned work with Contractors during bidding period. Follow approved bidding and contract administration procedures
• Schedule and inspect construction during construction period. Solve construction issues when they occur.
• Provide project startup checkout and assistance
• Prepare and distribute equipment lists and O&M manuals to EDMS Site, Production, Purchasing and Maintenance Departments
• Correct any project issues occurring after startup.
• Quickly communicate significant issues and/or departures from approved schedules or costs on assigned projects
• Execute project closure
• Execute other assignments as may be made from time to time
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering required. Other degrees may be applicable with appropriate experience.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment is desired. Experience in project management, including directing construction-related activities, is preferred.
TRAVEL:
Travel is dependent on project location. Every effort is made to minimize travel to alternate company worksites, but is dependent on project assignment.
