What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Chief of Staff position at Grammarly?
Grammarly team members who will be collaborating at our San Francisco hub must be based in the United States.
The opportunity
Grammarly empowers people to thrive and connect, whenever and wherever they communicate. Every day, 30 million people and 30,000 teams around the world use our AI-powered writing assistant. All of this begins with our team collaborating in a values-driven and learning-oriented environment. We have a very large market opportunity ahead, and we’re growing quickly to serve the needs of our increasing user base.
To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Chief of Staff to join our Product team. The Product Chief of Staff will be responsible for driving strategy and operations across our Product, Design, and Data Science organization while partnering closely with Engineering teams and key cross-functional partners. Our team has more than doubled in size over the last year, and many aspects of our operations—such as metrics, prioritization, and roadmaps—are being established for the first time under the leadership of the Chief of Staff. The role will report directly to the Global Head of Product.
Your impact
As Chief of Staff for our Product team, you will partner with the Global Head of Product and the leadership team to define strategy, lead us in efficient prioritization and decision-making, and ground us in a data-driven approach to operational excellence. You will work very closely with the VP of Engineering and Engineering leadership to drive a unified operating model across the broader EPD (Engineering, Product, and Design) organization.
We’re building a communications assistant, a product category that has not existed before. The Chief of Staff role has not existed before at Grammarly. You will have a unique opportunity to create and define our approach within a successful, high-growth organization that is just getting started on the journey to addressing the large opportunity ahead. This is a role that will drive company-wide transformation and impact.
In this role, you will:
- Work closely with the Global Head of Product as a trusted advisor and thought partner.
- Build strong cross-functional partnerships that enable progress on company-wide initiatives and projects.
- Serve as a thought leader to the Engineering, Product, and Design leaders, as well as key stakeholders across the company, to proactively identify and troubleshoot areas of development within the organization.
- Create a well-oiled machine for Product operations, including metrics, priorities, roadmaps, annual plans, cross-functional coordination, and more.
We’re looking for someone who
- Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
- Has the strategic chops to identify gaps in product strategy, metrics, and cross-functional alignment
- Is a systems thinker who can see beyond symptoms to identify root causes.
- Is a skilled leader and collaborator who can drive cross-functional alignment, meeting people where they are and bridging understanding.
- Can identify skill gaps and develop programs to upskill teams, increasing community and shared purpose.
- Has outstanding communication skills, including using data and strategic priorities to articulate a clear plan and persuade relevant stakeholders to support it.
- Excels in collaboration with senior executives and leaders as a thought partner and can predict evolving needs into the years ahead.
- Has experience scaling operations in organizations larger than Grammarly and designing metrics that align with company priorities and organizational goals.
