GCU Facilities manages and services all university-owned property. By the development and maintenance of the GCU campus and surrounding areas, the GCU Facilities team aims to support and ensure the accomplishment of the university’s mission. By working creatively and collaboratively, the Facilities team fulfills the needs of the university by successfully managing resources while delivering excellent customer service.
Grand Canyon University is currently seeking fulltime Facilities Painters. This role would be responsible for performing skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of all building structures.
Schedule: Monday- Friday & Tuesday - Saturday 7am-4pm

What you will do:
Performs skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of all building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment by inspecting the work site to determine the materials, equipment, tools, and method to be used; following a plan, layout, sketch, or schematic for the project or an established color scheme; mixing and matching pigments, stains or varnishes to the required color, tint and/or texture; assembling, or building and installing scaffolding, materials, and equipment as required by the scope of work; and using paint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers, sandpaper, sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, and related painting tools.
Completes assigned painting projects with quality workmanship by preparing surfaces for painting using sandpaper, power sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, scrappers, paint removers and chemicals, filling nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty, plaster or other fillers, applying paints, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using paint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers, and recommending the use of additional departmental personnel or contract personnel (as appropriate) to meet assigned completion targets.
Restores painting work sites to their original condition at the completion of work by removing scaffolding, painting cloths, tarpaulins, and masking tape used during the project, returning furniture and equipment to their proper location, setting up equipment that had been dismantled, and cleaning any paint splatters from surfaces, furniture or equipment.
Practices preventive maintenance of painting tools and equipment by performing spot checks of equipment to determine their working condition, oiling moving parts, cleaning and servicing tools and equipment as directed or specified in the operator's manual, and returning damaged tools and equipment for repair or replacement.
Provides technical assistance in the purchase of new or replacement painting shop tools and equipment by being knowledgeable of the capabilities of various types of equipment and recommending the purchase of painting tools and equipment that meet the needs of the paint shop.
Reduces the likelihood for liability regarding the University's compliance with federal regulations by complying with policies, laws, and regulations governing environmental protection, safety, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemical substances and materials common to painting.
Contributes to an accident-free work environment by complying with operator's instructions for the use of power sprayers and tools, wearing protective equipment such as filter respirators, goggles, hearing protectors, back supports, and work gloves, reporting incidents of unsafe work activity to supervisors, and following standard safety precautions during work.
Contributes to the overall success of the Facilities Maintenance by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What you need:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
Minimum 2 years successful experience in the painting trade.
Must have the physical strength and capability to lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds independently as well as push/pull equipment on carts, climb stairs and walk long distances across campus for extended periods.
Must be able read drawings, space plans or blueprints with good spatial recognition.
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work cohesively with team partners.
Willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays as necessary.
Knowledge of safety and security precautions and occupational hazards with a willingness to follow safety guidelines and/or precautions.
Good customer service orientation.
Ability to work efficiently and follow instructions or directions from others.
Ability to cope effectively with changing priorities and meet deadlines.
Reliable and dependable.
Must pass background checks.
