Job Summary:
The Grant County Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting applications for a District Technician.
Under the supervision of the District Manager, the District Technician assists with the technical aspects of implementing conservation practices. This position works with landowners, communities, and other units of government to install conservation projects and implement conservation programs.
Responsibilities:
· Survey, design, stake, and construction oversight of best management practices.
· Understands and can assist with Federal and State Cost Share, Conservation Contracts, RIM/CREP programs, Etc.
· Assist landowners in planning conservation measures for their property to meet water and soil quality protection and landowner goals. Some examples of existing and planned practices include: cropland erosion control measures (water and sediment control basins), cover crops, soil health practices, shoreline restorations, critical planting areas, tree plans, and buffer strips, etc.
· Coordinate site investigations and inventories that include spot checks for State Cost Share, Conservation Contracts, RIM/CREP, and Buffer Law compliance etc. for the SWCD.
· Assist with demonstrations, education, and outreach programs.
· Other duties as assigned and in accordance with an annual work plan.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or Education, Earth Sciences or related field; or any equivalent work combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position will be considered.
· Experience with computers and the ability to use ArcGIS, GPS equipment, and computer software such as Outlook, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office.
· Must be able to work independently, indoors and outdoors, with a minimum amount of direct supervision. This position is required to conduct work outside in areas that may have uneven and difficult terrain at various rural sites throughout the county.
· Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
· Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Ability to acquire and maintain Job Approval Authority (JAA) for the design and installation of conservation practices.
