About DC BUREAU:

Gray Television's Washington News Bureau covers live breaking news, politics, and in-depth investigations for Gray TV's 113 television markets. Its regional team works closely with stations, covering issues directly impacting viewers in their markets. The national team reports on domestic and foreign issues affecting the entire country. It often travels with the President as he meets with world leaders overseas. InvestigateTV produces investigations for Gray TV and recently sparked new legislation on Capitol Hill. Local News Live is a 24/7 featuring stories from Gray TV stations.

Job Summary/Description:

Gray DC Bureau is seeking our next Chief Engineer in a full-time position. This position requires a full knowledge of station operations and their technical layout, with a strong emphasis on engineering as it relates to modern video production. This position requires you to manage the Operations Manager at the Bureau.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Maintenance of the technical facility including studio support, post editing systems, field production support and transmission of live/taped events & programs
• Work closely with the Bureau staff and corporate leadership to implement new technologies for the business as a whole
• Maintain and/or create documentation
• Assist with the training of other members of the Engineering Department and the Bureau personnel in general
• Display and maintain appropriate dress for the workplace and duties assigned
• Duties include troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing broadcast and IT equipment for the DC Bureau and its tenant organizations

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Have knowledge regarding equipment, and technology, with a heavy emphasis on Studio technologies. Must have a background with previous work experience in TV Production/Broadcast Engineering
• Practical knowledge of broadcast signal flow with the ability to quickly identify key points of failure and bypass faults with minimal system downtime
• Work comfortably using the latest operating systems software, including networking, server, and desktop operating systems
• Able to work alone at times
• Technical skills with the ability to diagnose and repair systems at the board level
• Familiarity with cable fabrication techniques, including XLR, BNC, RJ45, and similar ethernet connectors
• Able to safely handle equipment and tools weighing 50 pounds
• Availability to occasionally work outside of normal daytime hours
• Must have a clean driving record and valid driver’s license
