Summary
Works under general supervision of the County Engineer. Some training and direction will be provided by senior engineering staff. Must be able to follow instructions and work independently. Work involves a variety of technical duties related to traffic engineering, primarily consisting of gathering annual traffic counts, office support work of a regular and recurring nature following specific and well-established policies, procedures and work standards. Duties may involve different and unrelated processes and methods. Individuals carry out routine assignments independently once procedures are learned and are responsible for their own work product and for maintaining high quality standards. Significant deviations are referred to a supervisor or employee of a higher classification who is normally available to advise or assist as necessary.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains and gathers data related to traffic counts for the Road Department. Work includes setting up schedules for traffic counts, setting traffic counters, maintaining counters in the field, and downloading data.
2. Updates traffic data files in the office.
3. Performs other engineering related duties within the engineering/traffic department.
4. Prepares records and documents for filing, scanning, or archiving.
5. Assists the department Public Records Liaison with searching archival records including copying and indexing records to fill public disclosure requests.
6. Operates standard office machines and equipment including computer with data entry, word processing and spreadsheet capabilities.
7. Assists survey crew and engineering staff with construction inspection and various office related tasks.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
2. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to apply available guidelines to recurring operational requirements.
4. Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, formats, and clerical procedures needed to type and proofread a variety of materials from written sources.
5. Ability to proficiently operate multi line phone system, computers and other office equipment standard to area of assignment and to adapt to new and/or modified equipment and software programs that may be acquired.
6. Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with a team to provide excellent customer service to all community members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be 18 years or older.
2. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
3. A valid Washington State Driver’s license.
