The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities in undergraduate courses in Agriculture Sciences utilizing campus-based, high school, and online formats, with a minimum of 15 SCH hours teaching load per semester. Expected areas of teaching are Horticulture, Animal Science, Food Science, Agricultural Economics, Livestock Evaluation, Wildlife Conservation and Management, and Computers in Agriculture. Teaching assignments will vary from semester to semester and could include day, evening, and high school dual credit. Instruction will comprise a variety of modalities such as traditional face-2-face, online, and hybrid. Teaching locations could include both campuses, local high schools, and other locations as assigned. Additional responsibilities include student advising, degree audits, industry advisory committee duties, curriculum development, program budgets, serving on select committees, and other duties as assigned. day, evening, and high school dual credit.  Instruction will comprise a variety of modalities such as traditional face-to-face, online, hybrid, and distance learning. Teaching locations could include both campuses, local high schools, and other locations as assigned.

 

The salary for this position is based on the Grayson College 2023-2024 Faculty Salary Scale, https://www.grayson.edu/employment/faculty-salary-scale-23242.pdf.

Responsibilities

  • 65% Teaches at least 15 SCHS of Agriculture Sciences courses per long semester; meets classes as assigned and provides assistance to students outside of class; assists Chair in coordination of degree curriculum; oversees the Ag Farm (both animalsand fruits).
  • 10% Works as a team member in the Biological and Physical Sciences Department; complies with the "faculty responsibilities" as outlined in the Faculty Handbook and the College's Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • 10% Develops and updates curriculum, participates in college committees and assists in registration, advisement and recruiting of students.
  • 10% Contributes to campus assessment process by measuring and reporting student learning outcomes as directed to meet THECB Core Objectives and SACSCOC requirements.
  • 5% Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean and Department Chair.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Masters of Science degree from a regionally accredited institution. Academic preparation in teaching field to include eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in the discipline to be taught such as Ag Science, Ag Econ, Animal Production, etc. . .
    • Experience: Previous successful experience teaching Agriculture Science courses in a high school, university and/or community college.
    • Preferred: A combination of teaching experience at an accredited Community College, university, or high school AND: -Industry experience in greenhouse crop production, agronomy, soil and water conservation. Or other related agricultural fields.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to engage students in the learning process and proven commitment to student success. Collegial attitude with college community as well as outside entities. Cooperative attitude and excellent team skills.
    • Other Skills: Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple assignments. Experience tracking student learning outcomes, analyzing resultant data, and implementing improvement plans. Excellent computer and multimedia skills. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
    • Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending carrying of light items, etc.
    • Work Environment: Regular exposure to conditions such as those found in a typical office, but also includes outdoor work with animals at the farm and horticultural plants at the vineyard.
