Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Commercial Lines Assistant must have a basic knowledge of insurance laws, regulations and policy coverages and forms. This position will work closely with and at the direction of the Commercial Lines Account Managers as they work with Clients, Carriers and Producers in order to successfully complete daily policy maintenance and servicing as well as assisting with new business. This includes working on renewal and new policies and includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Complete and retain accurate applications for new and renewal business
- Assist in with responding to incoming mail, email, client questions, client requests and company requests in a timely manner in accordance with agency procedures
- Assists with changes, endorsements, certificates of insurance, and follow up activity requests in accordance with agency procedures, and within agency timelines.
- In coordination with the Commercial Account Manager and Producer, process, maintain, and prepare new and renewal accounts for marketing, placement and delivery to the customer
- Maintain current knowledge of underwriting requirements of insurance carriers
- Obtain and maintain working professional knowledge of insurance coverages and forms
- Document all client interaction, direction and account maintenance activities in the Agency Management System
- Ask each customer for referrals and explain our referral program
- Complete special projects in an efficient and timely manner.
- Develop positive working relationships with customers, coworkers and insurance carriers
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management
- Assist the agency with prospecting and sales activities
- Maintain compliance with all Great Basin Insurance policies and procedures
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
A Commercial Lines Assistant must have a positive and professional demeanor. This position requires a current property and casualty license in the State of Oregon is preferred; however, Great Basin Insurance will determine if that will be necessary and provide the training as needed. Other education and work experience requirements are defined below; however, this is not limited to the following:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office 365 Products – Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere and contribute to the success of the team
- Experience in delivering customer focused solutions and in creating long-lasting relationships
- High school diploma or GED required, Associate degree preferred
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through industry-sponsored education programs
- Manage and complete all continuing education requirements per state licensing requirements
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

- Must be able to listen and speak clearly on the telephone.
