    Job Description

    Summary/objective
    The program director/instructor will be responsible for providing program oversight for all EMS programs at Great Plains Technology Center. The program coordinator/instructor will be responsible for instructing the paramedic program and overseeing the paramedic program accreditation process.

    Essential functions

    • Oversee the administration, organization, and supervision of all EMS programs.
    • Fulfill all the duties of the program coordinator according to the CAAHEP Standards and guidelines.
    • Fulfill all the duties of the program instructor according to the CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines.
    • Ensure continuous quality review and improvement of all EMS educational programs.
    • Conduct long-range planning and ongoing development of all EMS programs.
    • Monitor and maintain the effectiveness of the EMS programs.
    • Coordinate the EMS programs' direction with the Medical Director and oversee the Medical Director’s involvement.
    • Establish and maintain clinical relationships with various clinical sites.
    • Formalize, with the clinical coordinator, an orientation/training program for all new preceptors and provide supervision of clinical and field internship preceptors along with the clinical coordinator.
    • Ensure the effectiveness and quality of responsibilities delegated to other qualified individuals.
    • Establish a paramedic program advisory committee and hold two meetings per year.
    • Maintain required paperwork and documentation for paramedic program accreditation.
    • Teach basic, advanced, and paramedic-level classes, as well as all refresher classes.
    • Select/hire new part-time EMT instructors in collaboration with the ACD Director & Coordinators.

    Competencies
    Clinical Expertise: Possess advanced knowledge and experience in emergency medical care, understand the latest protocols, procedures, and techniques in pre-hospital care, including patient assessment, treatment, and transportation.

    Educational Leadership: Demonstrate strong leadership skills to guide faculty and students. This includes curriculum development, instructional design, and ensuring that educational standards are met or exceeded. Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the program.

    Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to various regulations and accreditation standards. Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements, such as those set forth by the CAAHEP and state regulatory agencies.

    Administrative Skills: Efficient management of administrative tasks such as scheduling, resource allocation, and maintaining records. Must possess strong organizational and administrative skills to ensure smooth operations and compliance with administrative policies and procedures.

    Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication to interact with students, faculty, healthcare organizations, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders. Must be adept at fostering collaboration, resolving conflicts, and building partnerships within the healthcare community to enhance the quality of education and clinical experiences for students.

    Supervisory responsibilities
    Instructional assistant(s) as applicable

    Work environment
    The EMS program coordinator typically works in a classroom environment, but the mission of the school may require work in other settings, including outdoors. Travel to clinical site is required as needed for proper oversight. A standard workweek as assigned by administration is required, but evening or weekend hours may be required to accommodate activities.

    Physical demands
    While performing the duties of this position, the coordinator is frequently required to move/position objects, move about their classroom building and/or across campus. Coordinator may need to be able to lift/move patients according to industry standards. The coordinator may respond to emergency situations, student altercations, and communicate with staff, parents, and students. The coordinator may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.

    Travel required
    Occasional travel within and outside of the Great Plains Technology Center district may be required for sponsorship of student activities, professional development, and participation in other Great Plains Technology Center activities.

    Required education and experience

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • EMT-Paramedic National Registry and State of Oklahoma certification
    • Approved Level Two EMS instructor in the state of Oklahoma
    • Minimum of two years field experience as a Paramedic in the last five years
    • Basic Life Support Instructor Certification

    Preferred education and experience

    • Master’s degree in Health related profession
