GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant prepares financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. The Accountant assists with day-to-day finance operations, with functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable; and payroll and grant accounting involvement. The Accountant ensures that systems and procedures are in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: *
- Perform general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
- Prepare periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Maintain the general ledger.
- Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close the monthly books.
- Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for grants.
- One to three years of accounting experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience with nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
