PRIMARY PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE

The Manager, Prospect Development leads our prospect development team to perform prospect research and prospect management services for our frontline fundraisers at Greater Twin Cities United Way. In this role, you will collaborate with fundraising leadership to provide visibility into key performance indicators for both institutional and individual fundraisers, develop and grow our donor pipeline through excellence in prospect research and prospect management, and help the organization use its data to inform fundraising strategy.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

People Leadership (30%)

  • Demonstrates growth mindset through people leadership, investing in regular feedback conversations and ongoing development opportunities for direct reports
  • Creates clarity around desired objectives and outcomes, to support team members understanding what success looks like
  • Engages in regular dialogue with direct reports regarding work performance, encouraging independent thinking while reinforcing our organizational values (equity, collaboration, agility and transparency)
  • Identifies skill and training gaps and support the identification of both free and fee-based training opportunities to shore-up skills
  • Models our organizational values in your interactions with direct reports, and support their development and growth within Greater Twin Cities United Way
  • Ensures processes are documented and kept up to date

 

Prospect Development Strategy (30%)

  • Evaluates current prospect development services to identify and solve for gaps and opportunities
  • Meets regularly with fundraising leadership to align on fundraising strategy and ensure prospect development practices support current fundraising priorities
  • Scopes and develops, or secures resources to develop needed reports and dashboards
  • Provides data and reporting to help inform fundraising strategy development
  • Develops processes that support our imperative to make best use of our fundraising data
  • Identifies strategic initiatives within prospect development that will lead to improvements in the identification, qualification, cultivation and solicitation of potential Greater Twin Cities United Way Supporters, with a particular focus on individual donors

 

Prospect Management and Prospect Research (30%)

  • Uses knowledge of fundraising best practices, familiarity with our constituents and insights obtained from our fundraising data to help inform both individual and institutional donor strategies
  • Serves as back-up to team members, performing prospect research for companies, foundations and individuals
  • Helps define and operationally support moves management implementation
  • Guides process development to support the longevity and usefulness of our fundraising data
  • As needed, collaborates with finance and IT to provide needed reporting to fundraising partners
  • Provides data and strategies to ensure the right constituents are in our fundraiser portfolios
  • Uses our fundraising data to provide strategic insights into donor behavior, and supports strategic decision-making by fundraising leadership
  • Develops or acquires the resources to develop needed reporting and dashboards to support our fundraising lifecycle and specific fundraising strategies
  • Executes strategies to support fundraising in alignment with our organizational values

 

Support Successful Use of Core Fundraising Software for Advancement (10%)

  • Develops excellent understand of our system of record for donor management, maintaining deep understanding of our data entry practices and data usage strategies
  • Provides ad hoc training to support fundraiser usage of our systems of record
  • Conducts periodic formal trainings to introduce new processes / procedures and to orient new team members to our fundraising systems and best practices for systems use

Qualifications


COMPETENCIES THAT SUPPORT YOUR WORK

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of progressively responsible experience in areas of research, prospect (relationship) management, data management, and strategic planning support OR 6 years’ experience without a degree.
  • Two years management (prospect research) experience preferred.
  • Experience with and ability to demonstrate an understanding of philanthropy and fundraising programs and related strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and organize fundraising activities effectively, prioritizing prospects and participating in fundraising strategies and gift discussions.
  • Strong customer focus, communicating effectively and respectfully including attentive listening that encourages expression of diverse ideas and opinions.
  • Actively learns through experimentation using both successes and failures.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and advance strategic plans through complexity that support the organization’s mission and contribute to the overall goals and objectives of fundraising program(s).
  • Knowledge of and experience with creating reports using Microsoft Dynamics or similar CRM (customer relationship management) database.
  • Experience with data mining and/or predictive modeling desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, Access).
  • Skilled at consistently achieving results, demonstrating persistence in accomplishing objectives despite obstacles and setbacks.  Is able to operate effectively through ambiguity.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet challenging and changing deadlines. Self identifies process necessary to get work completed.
  • Ability to lead groups and projects, building partnerships and balancing multiple stakeholder needs when making decisions while functioning as part of an integrated team.
  • Displays the ability to create new and better ways to look at problems and create solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using both verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to and knowledge of ethical use of information.
